Since having my gallbladder removed in April I have had to eat frequently or I feel very sick. Prior to that I had been living on about 400 calories of no fat foods and lost 6 stone. Now I have put 5 stone back on due to frequent eating of very wrong foods. I have had intense sugar cravings for fruit, bread and anything sweet. I’m 62 and I have never had cravings like it. Blood sugar levels in the 9’s and 10’s. Now I’m trying very hard to get them down and today I thought I was doing better. I didn’t eat for four hours and all of a sudden had a huge crash of low blood sugar symptoms. Severe shakes, feeling faint and dizzy, sweaty etc. I took my blood glucose level and it was 5.5, so low for me but not really low is it. Any advice please. I’m feeling most upset that I can’t pull this around.

No it isn't low but if your body is used to higher levels then you may experience hypo systems at "normal" levels, they are referred to as false hypo's, you can generally offset the symptoms by having something low carb like a piece of cheese or something as it "tricks" the brain, is there any specific "advice" you'd like? Like are there any questions you have? xx

Thank you so much for replying, I truly appreciate you taking the time. I ate some fruit and then a sandwich which pulled it back. I was very upset but I’m just going to keep plugging on with the low carb diet and see if I can manage to get healthy again.

Would having regular snacks helps the nausea and cravings @artdecogran ? It could also help ward off sudden drops in blood sugar like that (you said you hadn’t eaten for 4 hours). How many carbs are you aiming for a day?

Hypo symptoms are horrible even if it is a ‘false hypo’ and they do make you feel a bit panicky and shook up. Take things slowly - slow and steady is the way 🙂
