Just to say that Mr Marten and I went to Hatfield House today, and had lunch there - beer-battered haddock, chips & green beans, and a pot of tea, and it was lush...🙂

We walked it all off during the day, and will have a light meal later this evening, but it was *so* nice to have something like that and bugger the D for once 😛.......yum yum yum!

Nice one. I've yet to risk fish & chips. When I finally get the courage to try some, I'll buy one portion & share with the wife.

Pleased you enjoyed & well done for walking it off 🙂

Thing is 'out' when it's served on a plate with cutlery LOL and not in greaseproof bags and thick white paper - you do tend to get a lot LESS chips, don't you? Plus, the batter on the fish isn't as thick as from yer average chippy. Often think OMG what a massive lump of fish - and it isn't - plus it's 'steamed' inside it's 'duvet' and therefore not so nice really.

Most NT restaurants at the Statelys, do serve rather delish food, I have to say. And often with fresh veg and salad stuff from their own kitchen garden!

Actually there was a small but very fresh portion of chips, and the fish's beer batter again was light and fresh-tasting, so the meal was satisfying without bloating, and I'd certainly have it again - and what with all the walking around the house & gardens it was probably a good choice!

Well this is it - that's exactly how I would like all fish & chips to be. At our chippy the smallest portion is over £1 and there's more than my mother ever did, between 4 of us! Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Dribble! LOL
