I'm not new to this support group, i was here a few years ago when i was going through, what i thought was, a really bad patch. now I really am in a bad patch. I'm currently (supposed) to be on a regime known as carbohydrate counting, where i take a long acting shot (levemir) and take fast acting insulin (novorapid) whenever i eat something with a carbohydrate value of 15g or higher. I don't inject, i never test and i eat really bad food, I've even started drinking sugary drinks :(. I need this too stop, i just don't know where to start.. please help? .. Thank you for reading. 🙂

Welcome back 🙂

Admitting it was an issue was the first step - well done!

Thankyou 🙂 .. where would you start detangling this? im so sick of having high sugars, im out of breath doing the smallest tasks, ive lost too much weight (can see my spine and breast bone) i have an appointment (again) with the nurse but dont feel comfortable around the professionals.. i remembered this and thought id try it, it worked last time! ..

I'm no expert not being on insulin and I hope someone else comes along to say something knowledgeable :D

I've seen others suggest the DUK telephone help line as a good place to go to talk to someone and get some quick advice.

But at some point you need to face injecting some insulin - how do you feel about that?

well, thankyou anyway. Its the testing i dont do because im always so worried about not getting a perfect score, when i dont get the score i think i should have, i stop testing and everything spirals and gets like this.. I do hate injecting though, it bruises me always and id have to do that many a day it has gotten hard to make sure im not always doing them in the same places.. :/

Laura, take it one step at a time - don't become overwhelmed by the whole thing. Resolve to test and inject for one meal, then record it. The high sugars will be making you crave more because you aren't injecting, so your body can't use the sugar and your brain thinks you aren't getting enough.

If it helps, let us know the numbers and what you ate - don't worry about the levels, we will understand. You can turn this around, and as your control improves, you will begin to feel much better. 🙂

Thankyou Northerner, I'll start as soon as possible and report back tomorrow 🙂 ... its just all a mess, feels like ill never get on top of this.

Hi Laura- as Mark says- to admit things are an issue is the first step! how about you make a deal with yourself - today is the first day of the rest of your life - youve made the appt with the nurse give it a go! ask to go on a carb counting course[ push for this if needed] if it doesnt go so good - can you ask to see a hospital consultant?-you cant go on not testing and injecting - high blood sugars will make you feel/be unwell!-you need to be in control not the diabetes controlling you- Im glad youve come back -we will all help you

Thank you to all, I'm coming off this regime today, today is a new day and a new start for the rest of my life, i think that's a good deal to make. im going back on the two injections a day, hopefully if i cant eat any sugars rather than 'reasoning' with myself then i wont have the problems im having now, no sugar, minimal high readings right?.

Remember, it's not just sugar, but ALL carbohydrates that raise blood sugar levels. Write down the carbs in everything you eat and drink for a few days to find out where you can reduce them. Good luck! 🙂

Hi Laura. Welcome back. This is the place to get the guidance and support you need.🙂

Feeling overwhelmed is horrible, I know, but getting your diabetes under control will make you feel so much better, physically and mentally.🙂

Take it one day at a time, as northerner says. And keep posting - there's lots of great people here ready to help!🙂

Concentrating on just one thing (e.g. testing) to start with is a good idea. Once that's in place, the rest will follow.

It's important to remember not to beat yourself up if you forget now and then, whether it's accidental or not! Try to think about a time when you felt really well and keep that in mind when the demons try to invade your thoughts.

Hi Lauraa ! Really really good luck sorting. Being T1 is a pain at times & people dont realaise when your out of control you loose weight. What others have said about a new start is good & we "ALL" wish you luck 🙂

Hi Laura,

Sorry you're finding things so tough right now. Maybe going back to the two injections a day will take the pressure off a little. If you always get bruises, what length needle are you using? Perhaps changing to 4mm or 5mm needles would help, if you don't already use these.

Try not to look at your BG tests as being good or bad - they are JUST DATA, to be used by you or your DSN to make adjustments to your insulin. Everybody with type 1 gets variable BG results - my son can have any from 2-20! No point getting depressed about every BG that's not in the 4-7 range, but instead write them down and have a think what might have caused them to be out of range, e.g. forgotten insulin, too much carbs in your meal, taking the bus that morning when you would usually walk, etc. if you can identify a reason, then the next day you can take action to prevent the same thing happening. 🙂

Looks like you were told to go on the multiple injections but given no advice or education.........

This really p's me off..........😡
