Hi everyone,

Found out last week that I'm 4 weeks pregnant. T1 with 780G pump and on the libre, taking Metformin and started folic acid as soon as I got the positive result. Have been prescribed iron tablets as of today and also advised to start taking Vit D too.

Got a flurry of appointments booked for next week but I'm struggling with the persistent lows that won't budge that result in rebound highs. I don't know how to approach these with my pump. If I temp basal it's either too much or not enough. If I have glucotabs it's not enough. If I eat something it's too much and I rebound. Just feel lost with this at the moment and worried about the impact it's going to have.

Feel like I'm starting off in a bad place both physically and mentally and I'm only just getting started...

Don’t panic @teapot8910 It’s such early days for you. Are you sure about your dates? If so, I’d say that the heat could be contributing. 4wks would be early to get pregnancy hypos. Usually there are some highs, then the lows kick in a little later.

If you’re having persistent lows, you need to lower your basal. You might only need to lower it for certain portions of the day. Don’t leap in and make massive adjustments all at once. On a pump, tiny tweaks can have big effects. You’ll find it easier to make these adjustments if you stick to similar meals while you’re doing it. This will remove the carb variability. You can then get the basal more correct.

Hi @teapot8910

As you are already using the 780 is it possible to get their Guardian 4 sensors and try looping? When I switched over to this it reduced my hypos massively as the basal is automatically adjusted every 5 minutes. I do not have experience of pregnancy with T1 so not sure of the implications with regards to looping. Worth asking about this as I understand those who are planning or are pregnant are more likely to get funding for this.

Thank you @Inka yes definitely sure re: dates. I think it was carb ratio's sending me low then trying to get rebound highs down causing more lows! A small tweak has helped a lot today

I purchased a starter pack (before finding out I was pregnant) and am due training with Medtronic next week so hopefully this will help

Great news 🙂 Pregnancy is a time of lots of tweaks. It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It’s normal🙂

If you have any questions about the looping happy to help.

Lovely to see you posting again @teapot8910

And congratulations on your wonderful news!

Glad to hear the minor tweaks have helped a little, and good to hear you have additional training and support on the way from Medtronic.

Hope it went well on Monday 🙂

I've always really like Alison F’s writing style, and she documented her pregnancy here if it helps

(and went on to be a lay rep on the NICE T1 pregnancy guidelines)
