Hi Friends

i have lost almost 2 and a hafl stone since being diagnosed in may, my blood sugars are rather good....fasting late 4s ealry 5s... through day, 6 and 7s roughly they have come down nicely since losing weight...so why do i still feel fatigued?, i'm on iron , had all the other usual blood tests done before and all ok , ...and sometimes i feel anxious for no reason, wonder if it could be hormonal too as i think the GP said diabetes can effect your hormones?

i go for my HBa1c later in the month and will mention this to the nurse....i wiuld have thought losing weight, eating good food , swimming etc would have made me feel better :(

Since my diagnosis I have also lost weight and increased my physical anxiety, however, my anxiety levels have increased (also have chest muscular pain due to it) - I've also wondered if its an hormone thing as (correct me if I'm wrong) women seems to suffer more anxiety than men.. and when I get anxious I feel fatigued which increases the anxiety - never ending circle really. I would mention it when you have your appointment to get some reassurance. Keep up the good work - you're doing very well... Amanda x 🙂

thanx Amanda, i too get chest pain from not breathing right, its a bit like hyperventalating at times...drives me mad!!! xx

Snap - I went to my GP about the pain and having fluttering in my chest - was diagnosed with anxiety and told it will settle down eventually (its a little like a panic attack) - just need to learn to start relaxing and reduce the stress levels but please bare in mind that was my diagnosis; when you speak to your nurse please mention it.

When was you diagnosed? I was diagnosed in August so its still relatively new; my job is stressful but I also get stressed out because of not knowing what to eat; trying to increase my physical activity; appointments; long-term diabetes; I'm sure as time goes by and I control it better my symptoms will ease... 🙂

Amanda...i was diagnosed in may....diet and excercise like you...just been looking up about sucralose, being on a diet means its lots of foods..and the side effects and i have most of them lol x

Hi there, so you are relatively new as well. You have done fab with your weight loss. I was diagnosed in August but since July have lost 2stone 4lbs. Have another 10lb to lose by my 2nd DN appointment in December - we have a bet on...bring it on...😉

Since my diagnosis I've been having anxiety attacks - have had 3 GP appointments and a recent ECG. My GP assured me its chest muscular pain; a lot of people can get this when they dramatically change their eating habits and include exercise. My husband calls me one of the "worrying well" and I really don't want to become a hypocondriac because I do worry at every twinge - but I guess that is normal.

Like yourself I am working really hard to control my levels; my eating habits are good (I don't eat any saturated fats including cheese; red meat and alcohol and treats are out; I also have minimum caffeine because this can increase anxiety) saving my treat until christmas day (glass of wine and a low-sugar/calorie dessert).

I try to walk 10,000 steps per day, go on my cross-trainer twice per week and have recently started to learn to swim 😱 I am going to look at doing yoga in the new year; which is good for relaxation, mind and body. Have bought some relaxation cd's and candles. Need to start de-stressing and relaxing more. I know that stress can increase levels and again anxiety and to be fair I don't have a lot to stress about at home but work (child protection) is a different matter....

You are doing really well, what physical activity do you do? I'm hoping to be at my healthy weight by Christmas and within my BMI. Do you have a lot to lose...

You must be very proud of yourself - keep up the good work xx 🙂

Hi Amanda

i swim twice to three times a week, dont seem to have the energy i hope i would have after losing weight!!, i wonder if diabetes can effect hormones and bring on anxiety? xx

If you think you are suffering from anxiety then a read of this article might help.
http://www.anxietybc.com/sites/default/files/What_is_Anxiety_0.pdf

Some of the anxiety may be due to the fact that you want control of your diabetes a.s.a.p. You read about other people who seem to have good control and wonder why you are still having to work out why you get high readings sometimes. You want to be able to manage this disease perfectly and get downhearted when you make a mistake.

There is not one diabetic on this planet who has perfect control every day of their lives and it is not a competitive sport. Do your best, take your time, accept things will not always go to plan and give yourself a break. It takes time to come to terms with this condition and the struggles that it presents so pat yourself on the back and be amazed at how far you have come.

Just a sugestion for you, but it could be just the simple fact your body is not used to the lower (normal numbers) as you have been running high since before diagnoses. Once your body adapts to being normal what ever that is then things will be ok again.

Sue..could that still be happening after 5 months? , thanx xx

Hiya,
Suspect that would depend when you actually managed to get your blood sugars under control 🙂 As I said it was only another sugestion in the pot really so do ask your nurse when you next visit.
