loss of stamina..what do i do?

after 3 weeks of being good since diagnosis, with no faults, i suddenly took a very weak moment today and ate 3 small choc cakes and half a bar of galaxy, and now i am worried what i have done. i was being so strong and so motivated to eat the proper things, and today i just lost it. Argh, how do you all deal with the weak times, and what harm have i done myself?????? please help

Ah, Anna.... the most important thing is just not to beat yourself up. Are you feeling well? Well just get straight back on the wagon and carry on as normal. Losing weight and eating well is always hard.... but with the added pressure of this on top, it's harder. Just remember, you can do it, you will do it, and it's within YOUR control...

Two steps forward, one step back... you're still moving forward!

Firstly - don't panic. You're not alone in having weak moments. And you are only 3 weeks in. This morning when I was buying my paper I had an immense urge to buy and eat a large bar of galaxy - stopped myself my asking my standby "Is it worth your sight?". I know that is a negative re-inforcement but it is what works for me. You will find your own questions that give you that moment to think - you may decide to have something after all or you may choose not too

Secondly - the occasional splurge is unlikely to cause major harm. For us Type 2s it is the long term continued high glucose levels that does the damage. You will probably get a rise in your blood glucose levels that may take a couple of days to come down again if you are like me

Thirdly - can you think what triggered it? If so, you can think through how you would like to act next time something similar happens

Finally - remember to be kind to yourself and give yourself congratulations on how well you have done up until this one slip
 
Thanks Vanessa, I know that its the monthly hormone need-choc-time-of-month that caused it, will be prepared to leave the house with handcuffs and no money next month. I have never tested my blood gluocose yet and not been told how to or anything? Is that something I can look forward to ?

For some reason I'm having a sleepless night so ignore the peculiar timing of this posting!

Thinking about your need choc time of month - you might feel confident enough in a while to plan in a small chocolate treat to help manage that need in the future. Personally I find abstinence easier than stopping after a couple of bits but occasionally I indulge myself by buying one of the small bars of Green and Black's dark chocolate and then really savouring it over a couple of days

There are mixed views about whether Type 2's need to have more than the Hb1ac test that looks at how you are doing over about 12 weeks. Some of us - quite a few on this site given the correspondence about testing strips - use glucose meters for self monitoring on a much more regular basis. Diabetes UK have guidance on self-monitoring of blood glucose that, when you are ready, you may find helpful

It is a personal choice and worth discussing with your health care team to see if it is right for you. As you will see from the various threads some GPs are very reluctant to prescribe the testing strips for the machine. As I'm on drugs that increase the likelihood of hypoglycaemia and have diabetic maculopathy, I test before breakfast as a routine and then periodically, particularly if I want to see the effect of a new food

lol, glad i finally got there. was worried about being not normal for a long time now. wont let another sugar bout get me any closer to losing my sight tho......
