Sorry if this should not be in the general section but wanted to see what you all thought. I have been trying to lose weight recently and in about a month I have got down from just over 15 stone 8 to around 15 stone. But I have just had loads of hypos I just wondered if losing weight could make me have to adjust my insulin ratios?

Marc

Yes it can..

But I would check out that it's not your basal needs adjusting, as losing weight could effect this part as well..

It could be that your bolus ratio might need a slight reduction as well..

Happy Testing, and well done with the weight loss

Well done at loosing the weight. The bigger we are the more likely we are to have insulin resistence, which is why we are adised to loose weight.

Good luck at doing the adjustments.

Basically yes..................

The less cells there are, the less insulin is needed to provide fuel for them.......

Unfortunately it will be a bit of both insulin's, depending on how much weight is lost...........

Well done..........

How does this work as a Type 2 on Metformin? I had noticed my numbers were lower and even had a 3.9 after a long walk. When I first started measuring it would rarely go below 6. I see the DN in March. Should I wait until then?

It is a bit different for type 2s although I am not sure how to explain it. If you are having regular hypos don't wait till March, phone and see if you can get an appoinment sooner for a review.

There's also the question of whether you're doing more exercise to lose the weight. That will have a huge effect on ratios. And if you're restricting carbs, you may find you need a lower ratio for less amounts. It can be a bit of a sliding scale. The more you eat, the higher the ratio I think (although I generally eat loads!🙄).

Well done on the weight loss too Marc. Don't do it too quickly. Slow and steady.🙂
