Welcome to the forum @Steve711.

You firstly need to check your Body Mass Index (BMI), this will tell you how much over weight you are.
Please follow the following link and put in your details. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/

Come back to us and let us know the result if you don`t mind and we will do our best to help you, also what type
of medication you are on and if available to you your HbA1c result. I see you`ve joined today a great step in taking
control of your Diabetes well done, look forward to hearing from you soon and are you finger prick testing your
Blood Glucose Levels (BGL).

Take care stay safe.

Hi @Steve711and welcome to the forum.

The answer to your question is almost certainly yes, getting your weight down is probably the single most effective way of getting your blood glucose back under control. Does not matter how you do it but just about everybody on here knows that getting your weight down is easy to say but not necessarily easy to do. Look around the forum and you will see different approaches, see if any of them might be something you could use.

You might find that the way to reduce your glucose levels is to eat fewer calories, and you may well find that just doing that is enough to cause your weight to reduce.
I lost almost 50 lb just by using a meter to check that I was eating few enough carbs to keep my blood glucose in the normal range - I got it to 8 after meals, kept to the same menu and saw it fall to under 7 with no further changes.
Weight gain can be a side effect on diabetes rather than the cause of it, so fixing the elevated glucose levels tips the balance back to easier weightloss.

Welcome to the forum @Steve711

We have members who have achieved what is sometimes called ‘remission’ (repeated HbA1c results below 48mmol/mol with no medication) through a number of means.

Some have used the ‘Newcastle’ style dramatic calorie restriction diet for significant weight loss.

Others have aimed for a significant weight loss more gently and gradually.

Still others have simply moderated or reduced their total carbohydrate intake aiming for improved blood glucose responses around food, and finding weight loss happened as a happy by product.

With weight loss, it does seem to be beneficial however you achieve it.

This thread links to a research project that showed the benefit
