Hello, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes two weeks ago and will not be able to see a health professional until mid April but thought I'd set myself up here and have a look around to get a feel for things. Looking forward to getting to know people who understand. I would like to know if I'm likely to be prescribed Metformin as I've had months of trying to eat more healthily and have made some worthwhile changes. I don't want to waste any more time without proper support. Bye for now, Sky.

Hi @Sky72
welcome to the forum
hope you get to see the health professional and get some good advice,

I’m sure they will find the right medication to help you control now you’ve been diagnosed as T2
ask away on here there’s a lot of people that can advise and share their experiences

Hello and welcome. 🙂

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome. My level was 52 so not sure if they will offer medication but we'll see.

52 is not far over the threshold for a diagnosis with diabetes (48), and a little further over the cut-off for being considered ‘at risk‘ (42), but several members have joined with an A1c in 3 figures and managed to get things back into a non-diabetic range / remission over time.

At 52mmol/mol it suggests some fairly modest tweaks to your eating plan will be a good start. You might find it really helpful to keep a food diary for a week or two. Be brutally honest! Note down everything you eat and drink, along with a reasonable estimate of the total carbohydrate content (not just ‘of which sugars’). This will o give you an idea of which foods and meals are the main sources of carbs in your menu, and might suggest some easy targets for carb reduction or portion control.

Good luck and let us know how you get on 🙂
