It has been suggested to me to ask the consultant or DSN if I could be considered for a Libre trial, I spoke to the OH about it last night as I was considering asking my dad for it for my birthday however I am quite concerned that given my current state of mind etc that this would in fact make me worse, if I saw something I didn't like well I'd limit myself even more, quite a lot of you know my current situation so I am turning to you guys for your opinion and please do be COMPLETELY honest, TIA 🙂 x

Hi Kaylz. As you know I'm a dedicated fan of the Libre. I would not give mine up without a huge fight, honestly there would be blood and it wouldn't be mine o_O Now I check mine around 16 times a day, Bearing this in mind I feel that atm a Libre may not be wise till you have got the right help and are able to stop needing things under such tight control. apologies, this is just my view.

I'm very pleased to see you've reported higher waking numbers and no headache over in the other thread , give yourself a big pat on the back from me. 🙂

Please don't apologise I asked for an honest opinion and as you all know what I'm going through I thought here would be the completely right place to ask for opinions 🙂 x

I too would not want to be without mine. I absolutely hate pricking my finger. Yes it can be very obsessive and compulsive. Why not have a compromise. Have it but let your OH keep hold of the reader and only let you use it the number of times a day you would normally test.

Libre looks interesting, it seems it would be more reliable, is that so? I guess it is a case of weighing up the pros and cons, if you are already testing a lot, I cannot see it making that much difference to your mindset to be honest. If you are considering buying it yourself, it is obviously a major thing for you at the moment. I always find it helps to make up a list of the pros and cons, perhaps with my wife, then go through them honestly. That is the key though, being honest with ones self. 🙂

That sounds like a good idea but I'd also be worried he somehow managed to damage the reader at work or one of his work mates took it out his bag etc as a joke not realising what it was x

It also depends what you are getting the libre for. For me it is not about the readings themselves as for ME, they can be wildly different from my meter readings. However, I find the trends in the graphs brilliant to know whether you need to time your insulin differently, whether there is a particular time of day you seem to be going high or low, and also the reading arrow which tells you whether you are stable, or going up or down, and how quickly. I find these invaluable.

Forgot to mention, that although I still finger prick due to inconsistency in readings, I only do it before meals so I feel I can correctly calculate my insulin.

I agree with @Ljc, the last thing you need is another obsession, may be best to leave it until you've had some psychological help x

TBH Imo the Libre is rather an overkill if your diet controlled or just on Metformin. Plus the cost, each sensor lasts 2 weeks and costs around £50. My sensors usually reads up to 2.0 below a finger prick but I'm far more interested in the graph and the trending arrow.
It's wonderful for spotting trends , doing Basal tests and preemting hypos.

Kaylz I love my Libre but it is not very accurate and sometimes freaks me. For example it can say I'm 10.0 when my meter says 8.0. I use it as a prompt as to whether I need to test, for example if it shoots high then I may have a cannula failure. In the nicest possible way I'm worried that if you have a Libre you will worry about every change that it shows which would not be good for you. I therefore think that until you've had the psychological support that you need that a Libre is not a good idea. I hope that I haven't offended you x

Of course you haven't offended me as I said you all know what I'm going through so I asked for honest opinions from you all 🙂 x
