Relationship to Diabetes
Hi ,
I have just joined the forum.
My husband has Type 2 diabetes and had to have his big toe amputated just before Christmas . He is struggling dealing with this and scared that he is now high risk which may lead to further amputations. I wondered if anyone could offer any advise. we live in Glasgow and I was wondering if there were any support groups.
Also looking for practical advise on where to get diabetes shoes? Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, susanmcd. I'm replying in haste, in short lunch break. If you search on Diabetes UK website, there's a list of local groups somewhere. The key thing for your husband is to get his blood glucose levels under control / keep them under control. Does he see a chiropodist / podiatrist? They would be the best person to advise on suitable shoes.

Welcome.
Agree with Coeped re the shoes as with many things what is suitable for one person is not for another. Good luck.

Hello and welcome to the forum Susan. 🙂 Could you ask at your local library re support groups?

Welcome. Its frightening when you need to lose bits of yourself. It sounds like your husband needs to be referred for NHS Orthopaedic shoes. Im supposed to be getting a pair myself sometime soon,
I'm not sure of the referral procedure in Scotland, the team that's looking after your husbands feet would know, or the GP.

I hope your husbands toe is healed or at least healing well.

It might be a good idea to get seam free socks too, these have a flat seam in the toe area rather than the usual lumpy join, which can sometimes cause our toes problems , I buy mine from cosy feet, they are expensive but they last for years , they do socks suitable for swollen feet and legs as well.
