Hi everyone!
I have been diabetic for most part of my life and gotten by just fine. Yet I do have some annoying patterns and habits that especially lately have been evolving into bigger issues and they are mostly diabetes related. I find it hard to get support especially for the more mental side of having a chronical illness from my medical team. I would like to use this opportunity to ask around if there are any, or if anyone knows of therapists that have a more detailed knowledge about what its like to live with a chronical illness and not just "deal with it".

Thank you very much

Hi @lua and sorry to hear that you're struggling at the moment. I don't know if IAPT could help (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies, but it could be a good starting point depending on the waiting list length in your area. You can find details of it here and it is a self-referral service: https://www.england.nhs.uk/mental-health/adults/iapt/
I believe Diabetes UK also has a help line which may prove useful. The contact number is at the top of the page.

Are there any specifics which you might wish to discuss on the forum? I've found that when I'm struggling it helps a little just to vent here. It's not the long term solution I know, but it may be a helpful stop-gap while you are finding your therapist.
Very best wishes to you

Welcome to the forum @lua

I suggest trying the Diabetes UK helpline to see if they know how to find any possible specialist psychological support.

Unfortunately forum rules do not permit the naming of specific healthcare professionals, so this isn’t a topic that the forum will easily be able to help with.

However, while members would not be able to recommend anyone in particular, they might be able to share how they found the support they needed?
