Just returned to UK from New Zealand and my 25 hour flight. My insulin regime is three Humalog injections at meal times and one Lantus shot at 10pm each day.
We took off from Birmingham at 21.30 bound for Dubai our first stop and flight change. The first in flight meal was at 11pm UK time. I did not do my Lantus shot at 10pm just the Humalog for the in flight meal. I did my Lantus just before we touched down at Dubai, six hours later than usual. We left Dubai on the longest flight in the world, 17 hrs to Auckland. I will not be so stupid as to book this flight again. I injected Humalog at mealtimes and we arrived in Auckland at midday, ten hours to go to my Lantus shot. I decided that I will keep my Lantus at 10pm, which I am used to, and doing this worked out just fine for me. I kept an eye on my BS readings and used Humalog to keep me in check. After a couple of days in Auckland everything was back to normal no ill afects at all.
Return flight seemed a lot shorter, although it was the same duration, because you travel with time not against it i.e. left Auckland at 7pm land at Birmingham at 11.20am next day. Again missed a Lantus shot just use Humalog to keep BS levels in check.
Hope this helps plan your flight injections it worked just fine for me.
