Hi,
I'm a diabetic of 5 years. Took tablets an not much notice, just been prescribed insulin, now taking loads of notice !!.
Now treating diabetes seriously, hence joint this forum and learning loads.
Ordered the mayo clinic diabetes reference book and diet book. Can't see any reviews on these forum pages, just wondering if any of you have opinions of the mayo clinic ?.
Thanks, Paul.

Welcome to the forum Paul. 🙂 I take it you're a gooner. No idea about the book.

Welcome Paul,

As you read the posts I think that though we all share a common goal, i.e. to manage our D, there are many different approaches suiting our differing aspects of D & our lifestyles. There are reviews on just about anything out there, check the search engine in the top right hand corner. The difference between that & a google search is that you will find members of this forum having a real discussion as we live with D daily & have no particular agenda

The Mayo clinic is of course in the US and I don't think they are all that well known amongst British people generally to be honest - and not the first place anyone brought up and taught to cook here, would look to for suitable recipes. So sadly - I shouldn't be at all surprised if very few, if any, folk on the forum have any experience of the book they can share with you.

Hi Martin, I've done a bit of diabetic forum research and this appeals to me as its UK orientated, from a official source and with knowledgeable members. Thanks. Paul.

Hi trophywench. I looked at diabetic books on amazon and got it along with the diabetes UK book. I like "official" type things and wouldn't stray too far from the norm, especially with something like diabetes. Any, when they arrive and / if I follow some principle's I will report back with my very begginer like, basic review !. Thanks. Paul.

Hope you have an American 'cup' recipe then, Paul - I have hardly ever tried to follow an American recipe for the simple reason I haven't - and it isn't the type of thing I've ever been prepared to spend the money on, just for one very very occasional recipe - but, who knows what little gems are in there? cos I'm certainly not knocking it, just suggesting why you might not get many replies to the question you asked!

Of course - I could easily be wrong - but I've never noticed anyone on here or the other UK diabetes forum I infest, mention it before.

I really enjoy this forum, despite being an expat living in the US.... It is very different from many of the others in that it's very supportive, compassionate & lighthearted. Also makes me feel a little nostalgic when talk diverts to places I have lived & visited Again welcome aboard.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

No need for special (and possibly hard to get in the UK) equipment, just use a conversion chart. 🙂

The only thing I know about the Mayo Clinic is it's keeping my online friend Chip alive, she's D and had a liver transplant. They are good people.

Dunno about the book. I don't really cook as such, but do have American cups as my other online friend sent me some. I luv the 'net. :D

I've actually got some cups. No idea how I got them. Some measuring jugs have cups marked on them. Using cups is very easy. I found conversion charts confusing, as a cup of flour is a different weight to a cup of sugar.

Yep - and of course, admittedly - last time I might have been tempted to want to try any US recipe - they hadn't invented the internet so unless I'd gone out and found a book with it in, I'd have been stumped. So - it was easier to simply not bother!

I'm trying to remember how we all coped pre-Internet. I found the information somewhere, about 40 years ago, that an American cup was 8 fluid ounces, so have been using my trusty old Pyrex measuring jug ever since ( hope I never break it, I bet they're only marked in ml these days).
