Talking to a colleague at the National Trust House I volunteer for about my diabetes. She was aking how it was going.
I said that things, I believe, are going well. I feel good about myself. My new regime the food I eat, excercise etc seem to be making me feel good but some times, albeit I hydrate a lot, there is this pesky cat sleeping in my gob.
She said what meds am I on? Metformin says I. That could be the problem says she. Metformin has that side effect.
So I look up the side effects on the NHS site and she is right along with some of the other side effects I have like feeling sick, loss of appetite.
She then asked why was I on Metformin? Cos thats what the Diabetic nurse perscribed for me.
She said Metformin is an old remedy and that there are better meds out there.
She said the only reason they use Metformin is cos there is so much of it out there and cheap.
What do you guys say?

Metformin is widely used because it works well and has far fewer side effects than other drugs. There are newer drugs, but some don’t lower hba1c as much and can cause weight gain and hypos.
