CANCER patients waiting for brain surgery at the most advanced centre in Britain are being put back on the waiting list because NHS England says the unit is too new.
University College London Hospital opened its Gamma Knife Centre last October and has saved or extended the lives of 59 NHS patients in its first six months.
Yet when NHS England took over responsibility for funding cancer care in April it stopped patients being treated there.
Forty patients scheduled for treatment had to return to the waiting list at two other hospitals.
Almost all have refused to be transferred and have lodged complaints.
