My son HAS taken his Lantus the last two nights AND his M3 the last two mornings. Little steps I know, but at least something a little positive. He certainly hadn't taken any Lantus at all since mid August, so I am really pleased with this little bit of progress. Now I want to try and bribe him into a fasting BG tomorrow morning if possible. I won't push it though, I would rather at least get him injecting regularly first.

That's really good news Tina, hopefully it's the start of things getting back on track 🙂 xx

He has just gone out for the evening so I have been and sneaked a look at his pens and some Novorapid has gone too. Progress indeed!

Glad to hear of progress. I think you're right not to push too hard, and to note the successes, but not comment to your son just yet.

Great news Tina 🙂 With luck he will feel the benefit and this will encourage him to take better control long term 🙂

He also asked me to make an optician's appointment too, so I have done that. He had a test last year and needed glasses, but it was hot on the heels of his T1 diagnosis and he just couldn't handle that at the time, so walked out without any. The fact he has come to me asking now is again a positive thing I think. I do realise his eyesight is poor partly due to his high blood sugar levels, but he had glasses as a primary school aged child so it's not a surprise really. My daughter has needed them on and off too.

I am considering speaking to the optician by phone a day or two before his appointment explaining the current situation to her, as I am sure he will go in on his own, even though he has asked if I will go with him. Maybe yet another professional telling him he needs to get tighter control may make all the difference.

That sounds really positive! 🙂 Slowly slowly catchy monkey...hopefully things are turning around - fingers crossed! Xx

I think I'd call that progress. Maybe the weekend really did shake him up. Hope it continues down this track 🙂

It sounds as if he's beginning to take control, which must be an enormous relief for you!

Just a thought - if his blood sugars have been very high then the eye tests won't give reliable results so it may be a good idea to delay spending any money on specs until things have settled down a bit.

The optician would tell him this but only if he's honest about his control!

Thanks for that Mary. I do realise that, but given that he needed a pair 15 months ago and refused, I would be happy to get some now just to get him used to wearing a pair, then if we need them changed in the future, I know it's an expensive business, but I would just be happy again to have made a bit of progress with him. Our optician is lovely and approachable and very informative, so hopefully she will explain a lot to him.

I'm so pleased that things are moving in the right direction, and hope this is the start of good things for your son and peace of mind for you - especially after last weeks frightening experience.... 🙂

Well, what a turn up for the books.

You also dunno what his mates have said to him, do you? They were probably as shhhhh scared as you were, frankly. And may have had a LOT more effect than any amount of parents, sibling or Medics going on at him .....

V pleased he likes his new DSN too because Oh My Word! (LOL) that can make ALL the difference to how you feel about yourself and 'IT'. Long may she reign !

Fantastic news Tina, I bet you feel better as well now 🙂
Perhaps the new DSN has been checking more often and asking for results :D

Great news, glad you have even a little progress! 🙂

No Lantus last night it seems (though he told me he did). Back to reminding tonight again then!

Sounds much more positive. Damn this is so hard for these children especially when diagnosed as a teen.

You are doing really well Tina even though I imagine you are going out of your mind with worry 🙂
