Not to highjack the pharmacy thread (ours is great, a fellow type 1 and will bend over backwards for us)

It is our GPs who are seriously testing my patience on two counts. Firstly 100 strips for a youngster pumping insulin ?!!! repeats constantly going in, can they not help the burden by upping this so it is one less thing to do ? Secondly, and despite PDSN's efforts, they will not change the glucogel from 80g to 75g (we want 75g so we can get the 3 tubes of 25g - this makes treating night hypos more effective, we don't want under or over treat as waiting for the gel to settle back to see how much have given) Happy to use JB's in the day but no good at night would have to fully wake her and hope she complied 🙄

Any how, it really really upsets me to think they will not budge to make life a little easier for us, it seems just plain awkward 😡.

Consultant is writing to them so fingers crossed this will help.

Rant over for now :D

You have every reason to be angry at this - where on earth is their common sense? There should be flexibility in their rules - whoever thought the rules up must have had a very narrow understanding of diabetes and its demands, and it is just plain wrong to put extra, unnecessary stresses on a family caring fr a three year old with diabetes 😡

I hope your consultant can knock some sense into them!

Hi.

I have a situation with my Doctor, they tell me they are not allowed to prescribe a 5 litre sharps bin for me because its not on the buying list, guess what they prescribe instead..."10 x 1 litre", makes sense somewhere I suppose.

John

The doctors often don't seem to be pro-active in being helpful with things like this. I am having the same argument with my doctors - who won't prescribe me more strips...but I keep telling them, I'm going to use the same amount no matter how often the prescribe them, it would just save me time and surely them for keep giving me repeats!!

I hope your Consultant's letter does some good!

Thanks, it's a no-brainer isn't it ? They should at least be listening to consultant, obviously DSN and I carry no valid opinion on the matter, nice to know they are caring 🙄

Generally I don't have any trouble asking for more or different meds, including double for hols, but I was in the same situation as you John. I asked GP for a bigger bin. He looked on PC to see if he could prescribe one. No sorry, I don't know why, but you can't have a bigger one. So he changed the prescription to 2 bins (luckily not 10😱). He told me to ask pharmacist. Pharmacist said, it was because the government want them to prescribe 1ltr bins only.🙄
