I now know that the reason I was drinking so much was diabetes, but since starting on the Metformin just under 2 weeks ago, my thirst become more manageable, which is probably normal, how ever now I am having to remind myself to drink as I am hardly ever thirsty anymore. Today I had one cup of tea and it took me all morning to drink it, I went to the water dispenser and I am having to force myself to sip at the water as I know I need to drink.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I don’t have to force myself to drink but I do need to remind myself.

Easier for a gentlemen as each visit to the water closet presents a visual reminder. If it isn’t close to the colour of water, drink more water.

When I’m under pressure and likely to forget, I drink from a 500ml water bottle so I can see what I’ve consumed. I also find a suitable ‘squash’ type drink makes it easier as does avoiding the chilled outlet of the water cooler.

Good luck.

My problem is that i don't drink enough water, i have about 6 cups of tea or coffee a day but they say water is what you really have to drink.

Since cutting out the fizz a while ago I mainly drink water apart from a couple of cups of tea at work, but just not drinking enough now.

The advice given by NHS is to drink 1.2 litres a day to avoid dehydration. I don't think it needs to be just water, I drink mainly tea, some coffee and some Robinson's squash on a typical day 🙂

I wouldn't worry about it. Your body is designed to tell you when it needs something. If you're not thirsty, you don't need to drink more.

I am pretty sure its 7lt a day so try it & good luck. Not many people have that much 😉

Similar to what someone else has said I remember a mantra 'Pee white at least once a day'

I had much the same issue, was drinking about 7 litres of fluid a day 🙂eek🙂 before diagnosis, but after I reverted to type and have to chivvy myself along to drink. Thing is if you eat a lot of veg or fruit they contain a lot of water too and hydration from food counts too, I eat veg like a demon so I guess that helps because I don't appear to be dehydrated. I wouldn't worry too much, I think it's relatively normal to have to remind yourself to top up 🙂

I'm exactly the same before if I was at home I could drink 4 litres of fizzy juice a day and at work a 500ml bottle or rubicon would be gone in minutes now I'm having to pour away juice from a 1 litre bottle of sugar free irn bru it sits that long, I could easy have a 330ml can of coke with my tea before now a 330ml can of sugar free irn bru has a few sips taken out of it and is wasted, 3 coffees a day and a few mouthfulls of juice is not enough but I can't stand tap water has to be flavoured for me, although I have noticed 10.8 BG isn't particularly high but that's round about when I start to get thirsty x
