Congratulations to the England team! A penalties win, but we’ll take it.

Fantastic grit and stickability through the tournament. So pleased for them.

Terrible penalties from both teams again but a magnificent effort - and what a goalkeeper England have - living with Strabismus which is an eye disorder which affects depth perception - she was brilliant - overcoming her health problems to perform at the highest level - inspiring

I thought Spain’s pens were nervy, but the England ones that didn’t land seemed more like decent goalkeeping (though they weren’t really hitting the corners to be fair)

A brilliant game from two great teams, it was a pleasure to watch. They could certainly give their male counterparts a few lessons in quality football. I gave up on men's football years ago, but now the ladies
are playing it has inspired me to watch again.

***************************:star:Well done to the Lionesses:star:*************************

They can show the men a thing or two about not making a fuss about injuries too…

I hate football so haven’t watched it, my dad tells me about the Lionesses though and from what I’ve heard they are way better than the men. Well done ladies!

Now i dont follow football....deffo not my sport....but the womens team seem to be excellent role models for young girls in todays world

From what ive heard theyve achieved more in the last few years than the mens team has since 1966..........so surely the whole team deserves something like mbe's?......and manager deserves an honourary cbe.......they hand them out to a lot less worthy sports people so why not people who deserve them

I think we can agree that Spain lost it as much as England winning it.

Terrible penalties.

And I couldn't agree with that more, get up and get on with it lads.

*Some* terrible penalties for sure, but also some amazing ones as well. And a phenomenal display of goalkeeping from both sides.

The result is a fantastic boost to girls' sports. I can imagine football clubs being inundated with calls this morning.

Great stuff!

Yeah I don't really care about football but I do care about women so I make sure I watch the finals, and follow the bog events.

It was only allowed (ban removed) in England in 1976. Its a sport. Sport is for all.

The 1at penalty taker from England slipped as she took the kick, meaning she actually kicked it twice (which is invalid), so under new rules (only recently come into force) she has to take the kick again (and it was saved!)

So "invalid" was used here as "not valid" (because it was kicked twice) rather than "a person made weak or disabled by illness or injury" (because she had a broken tibia).

Gotta love the English language 🙂

Have you seen the movie Copa 71?
Like you, I do not follow football but this was fascinating to see what the women went through in 1971 and how they were treated afterwards.
