Not Linogliptin but been on a couple of other Gliptins, I have had not problems. Was only changed from one type to another as CCG decided on the change.
Linagliptin is one of the T2 meds which works by promoting the pancreas to produce more insulin than it usually would. So it should be able to reduce elevated BG directly.
It can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia, so your Dr should discuss that with you. I’m never 100% sure which of the T2 meds require you to inform the DVLA (if you drive), but this may be one of them.
