Hello everyone, any advice regarding the lifestyle transitions? Given up smoking, drinking and radically changed my diet for the better already, now swimming for an hour 3 to 5 times a week and getting back into weight training when possible.

Wow, that's a triple whammy @Goldies! I don't think I could have managed all 3 at the same time. Well done you. Are you feeling the benefits? That's what keeps me on the straight and narrow for most of the time, remembering how fit I am compared with pre-diagnosis. That said, I still sneak an occasional cig and have a couple of glasses of red most nights.

If you’ve done all that I’d say don’t push to add anything more right now, focus on maintaining the changes you’ve already made. Do they feel manageable or too hard to sustain?

As a non-smoker and non-drinker I didn't have to address those two but I did embrace a low carb diet, lost some weight (have you had to do that?) and started an exercise regime that involves long walks and doing 20 lengths of our local pool twice a week. You seem to have a good grasp of what you needed to do so I agree with @Lucyr - maintain what you're doing and reap the benefits, which should show up at your next HbA1c.

Sounds like you're doing everything right - well done!

All I can really add is to carry on with the good work ..... that said, here are a couple of things you might like -

I do Tai Chi, which is a martial art, but not as aggressive as things like karate or judo, it's more to do with balance, coordination, and stretching
There is also a mental/meditation/motivation aspect which keeps me on my diet and the straight & narrow; it just depends on how involved you want to go
There are loads of videos on YouTube - some simple, and others more advanced & complicated

I suspect that if you've given up smoking & drinking you might be saving money, and be well on the way to a lower weight or HbA1c target
So in the not too distant future you could think about a treat or reward such as a holiday, new clothes, a couple of expensive new kitchen knives, or whatever

Welcome to the forum @Goldies

How long have you been living with diabetes?

When is your next check-up due? Hopefully if you can maintain the positive changes you have been making, as @Martin.A says, you’ll get some encouraging improvements in your results.

What changes did you make to your diet?

Well done @Goldies on the changes that you have made. Sticking to those should have an impact on your next set of results. How long have had diabetes. Let us know how your next check goes.

Walking my friend, helps clear the mind & relaxes your body, plus your outside getting fresh air & getting vitamin d naturally from the sun.
