A new life-saving blood bike service has been created in Greater Manchester - the first of its kind in the region.

Bikers at the Rising Moon MCC came up with the innovative idea after being inspired by a TV advert.

The motorcyclists watched a Honda advert on television, telling the story of a blood bike volunteer rider over the Christmas period in 2011.

In no time at all they transformed the idea into a new service that serves hospitals and trusts across the North West.

I'm a bit amazed, as Coventry have had one for yonks. Admittedly we didn't know about it till after our bike accident, I wheeled Pete outside the hospital building one sunny Saturday to take the air and there was a bike parked nearby so I wheeled him over there and the chap was a blood bike person, we had quite a chat. Trying to think, that would have been about 2006 ish.
