Type 2
When I was diagnosed Type 2 in August 2011 I thought my life was over; for some reason I mentally thought my diagnosis meant I'd become a different person - I was different; life would change drastically but since diagnosis my life has improved with new goals and aspirations.

I've gone from 13stone to 9stone 5; a size 18 to a size 12 😉

I've taken up swimming lessons at the age of 43 and absolutely love it - to the point I'm doing 2 lessons (I even look good in a swimming costume 🙄)

I've signed up for the the Brum Fun Run in August in aid of Diabetes UK (and I'm determined to jog it and raise loads of dosh...😱)

I've passed my Computerised Accounts course with a 'First Class Pass'
and am now booked on Level II

I've made some great friends on this website whose support has helped me focus on the positives and deal with the negatives. THANK YOU.

I'm still me; just slimmer; healthier and more determined not to be held back 🙂

Forgot to mention: I'm even considering having a 'butterfly' tattoo.

that is a lovely story 🙂 i too thought when i was diagnosed in Oct 2009 it would mean my life would be cut short by this condition but 3 years on i feel lots healthier as i walk a lot and go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and am slowly losing a little weight at a time. I am 50 this year and have a holiday booked to the US so am trying to keep positive and healthy and learning to cope and live with diabetes, well done you 🙂

What a lovely post Amanda. Well done for all your achievements and most of all for sticking it to the Diabetes Fairy!

A lovely post Amanda. It's been a pleasure to watch you deal so positively with your diabetes and grow in confidence. You've done amazingly well and should take credit for all your hard work. I've not been round much these last few weeks due to computer problems but I've still been keeping an eye on everyone by reading posts on my phone. Keep it up! 🙂 XXXXX

Great post keep up the good work. As for the swimming keep it up not only is it good exercise, but it also relaxes the mind, well it does mine.

I went back to swimming when I retired [early] having not swum since school, I swam a length and thought I would die! but I was then taught proper swimming technique and within a year I could swim a mile, now 12 years older [65 on wed] I swim twice a week each session about 30 minutes and cover approx 1000m.

I consider swimming about the best exercise there is, you don't get all sweaty!

Cheers😎
