Can I ask people for their experience of the sensor & app?

I’ve been having some some issues with continually losing the signal. A rather irksome thing when it happens around mealtimes. However I’ve also had a few occasions when the data has been lost too. I did speak to Abbot but they didn’t seem to think there was a fault.

Does this happen to others, what did Abbot say and are other brands available on the NHS?

It's been fine for me. Your other choice is Dexcom One. (There's also (probably) GlucoRx Aidex, but I think that's a distant third in popularity. There are others which can be provided, but they involve requesting funding; Dexcom One should be as easy as Libre 2 to get.)

Hi John,

I've had this problem previously.

Do you close the app in the background? This causes the signal to be lost so it needs to be continually running in the background.

Hopefully this solves it for you

On the odd occasion I get signal loss , I just reboot my phone and it all works fine and as has been said you must give permission on your phone for the app to run continuously in the background .

John, I have got that problem with my current sensor. It drops out of signal a number of times each day ( it is also giving readings significantly higher that the finger prick - as much as 5 points higher)
I have today reported it back to Abbott and await their comments.

Thanks Tom. Yes I keep the application open along with sweet dreams (a third party app that gives me functionality on my Apple Watch) yet it’s been happening far too often.

I’ve had issues in the last two sensors, both of which came from Boots, so I’m wondering if maybe I got a bad batch.

I called Abbot today and had a very odd exchange. I explained I understood the signal might drop out from time to time but on a couple of occasions I had also lost all the data! I checked on Libreview and it was missing there too yet despite this she wouldn’t say it was a faulty sensor. It was odd because then she agreed to send me a new sensor!

I’m new to all this but I admit it’s left me feeling unsure about the Libre sensor &/or Abbott. I’m hoping it’s just an odd exchange with a bit of bad luck with wonky sensors. I haven’t heard anyone say anything to make me lose hope completely so I’m hanging-on in there !

Thank you all

Hi John, the sensor still holds 8 hours of data so you can always scan to download the data, after 8 hours the data is overwritten. The bluetooth will disconnect if you move to far away or has interference, sometimes home wifi, cordless phones can cause issues also the amount of bluetooth devices connected to the phone can be a problem especially for older phones. Check your on the latest iOS version and dont forget you can still scan the sensor for a reading.

I dont mean to sound patronising but it does sound like the problem is with the phone not uploading the data to Abbott, if they were to loose your data that would be a serious issue. Cheers

Yes, if you lose connection it's worth scanning now and again. I think with some other sensors (like Dexcom and Libre 3) they can fill in readings over Bluetooth, but Libre 2 sensors are just sending a reading once a minute so you won't get anything filled in without scanning.

Thanks for this. However I manually scan my sensor all the time to log my readings at the time of my meds ad as well as my insulin.

I lose the signal quite often and whenever that happens I manually scan to check the reading. Another reason I’ve been doing this is I was getting hypos that weren’t being registered on the libreview data charts. I learnt that the scan only takes place in 15 minute intervals so if I recovered from its fruit pastilles inside 15n it didn’t show. So now I always manually scan to collect the data.

And yes the data has been lost. This is what I couldn’t understand about my exchange with Abbott. I thought this was a concern and a fault but the “operator” wouldn’t agree!

That’s why I’m suddenly nervous. My hypos weren’t being recorded but then I found a solution. Now my data is being lost and there’s no solution and Abbott didn’t leave me with any confidence.

Thanks Bruce. That’s what I’ve been doing. It’s all very odd.

I understand John, yes you can be hypo with the Libre and not get an official red hypo mark, the graph plots your average reading for the last 15 minutes so as long as you treat the hypo then you wont get the red mark.

You could try a third party app like Shuggah this will record every reading on the graph and it can push glucose readings straight to your watch but will not upload data to Abbott.

You should be able to choose either a Dexcom one or Libre 2 sensor via the NHS, Dexcom one is a watered down version of the G6 sensor. I have tried Dexcom and found it a bit bulky, very sticky 🙂 and the readings lag behind the Libre. Both have pros and cons and both will loose connection exactly when you need it but you can not scan the Dexcom to get a reading.

You can buy a 30 day Dexcom starter kit for £125 or try asking you Diabetes team if they have a spare one in the cupboard to try. Its frustrating I know.

I solve the issue with unregistered hypos by manually scanning so it appears on the log. I think / hope I may have been unlucky with the last two sensors so will struggle on with my Libre for now. I’m also using Sweet Dreams as it gives “at a glance” readings on my watch.

Thanks for this and help.

You could try out one of the unofficial apps such xDrip or Shuggah that enable you to calibrate your sensor with finger prick readings.
When I used Libre, I would use xDrip+ and calibrate most evenings and nights when my BG was in range and reasonably stable. Even f the Libre was not far out, it would give me peace of mind

It could well be a bad batch - has this happened with previous sensors?
