Hi my 8 year old was diagnosed T1 in June and has just been given a Libre sensor due to poor hypo awareness.Still using finger pricker on waking and the results of both differ massively.Anyone else encounter this?

Could be compression lows if sensor is reading lower than bg, meaning the boy is laying on the side where sensor is placed, very common for this to occur when sensor is being compressed.

What are the differences, and the Libre lags around 15 mins behind the finger prick.

has just been given a Libre sensor
how long is "has just been given"?

is it their first sensor (sorry you don't mention what your child is hence using "they")

How long has the current sensor been on? How far out is it to a finger prick? what is a blood test registering and what way is the arrow on the Libre scan showing?

xx

Yes, give us the gory details! Some people find it (and other systems) can go low overnight because the arm's being squashed. There's this 10-15 minute delay between blood glucose and what the Libre reports, so comparing is harder when BG is changing quickly (which is usually the case first thing in the morning). Libre and blood glucose testers are designed to be most accurate in the usual range (4-8 mmol/L, roughly), and outside that they can differ quite a lot. Some people find the Libre just doesn't work well for them, for some reason (usually reading too low). Sometimes people find one sensor just doesn't work right and needs replacement (perhaps because something went wrong during application or some fault in the sensor itself).
