Type 2
I’ve done a couple of trials of a Libre sensor. I am T2 but on gliclazide. Realise there are rules around NHS funding, but has anyone managed to get them on prescription? I find them so helpful.

Unfortunately the main criteria for receiving funding for the Libre on NHS is that the patient must be using intensive insulin therapy to treat their diabetes and even then most Type 2's still don't get funding although some have due to exceptional reasons and a specialist being involved xx

In England it’s a flat no, I pay for them myself. In Scotland I’ve heard there is a chance of getting them if on insulin with MDI but still very hard to get.

When I was on Gliclazide I only got prescribed 50 test strips a month and self funded more. Now I am no longer on the Gliclazide the strips have been withdrawn.
I self fund the Libre.

That isn't strictly true, some with certain circumstances do get it as many do on the Libre FB groups xx

It isn’t in the nice guidelines for T2 unless on dialysis & MDI or have a learning disability.

It isn't just all based on criteria though, if there is a specialist involved and they see it fit then they can and have prescribed xx

There is no chance a T2 on gliclazide would be seeing a specialist let alone one who would prescribe the libre.

It would totally depend on if there were other health conditions involved as there are some that get it due to other health conditions being involved, some quite complicated cases etc, I've read a lot of their posts on Libre groups

The original poster hasn’t mentioned any other conditions or seeing a specialist so the people you’ve read about online are unlikely to be relevant in this instance

Was just making people aware that they should raise their own personal circumstances to see about it rather than seeing it's a point blank no comment when that might not be the case
