Well I’m before you all with my tail between my legs after using the libre 2 for a year and having great stress with the alarms or lack of them I dug one out as I haven’t use them for a good year or more, now I did not use the reader in the past I just used the phone app when I was using them, in fact the reader was still sealed in its box and once set up correctly the alarms do work if the reader is near you. This is what I was expecting from the libre 2 so yes it is a great improvement over the one.
I have so far not managed to get it working with my phone app yet but I have another week to keep trying so if I get it going I will post it here
SORRY I DOUBTED YOU LIBRE 2
Update
I had a play and deleted the LibreLink app and downloaded the new version and the alarms are working with the current version. You must start the sensor with the phone to get phone alarms according to the Abbott blurb
My apologies if I mislead anyone in my older posts, I was using libre2 with my phone only and older versions of the LibreLink app did not support the alarms.
For everyone waiting for the 2 it’s definitely going to help you more than the 1 did

Good to know mate.

Thought it strange as 2 was promoted as having bells & whistles, just need to get hands on one.

I felt quite crushed by what you said, so thank you for revising your opinion of it. It's important - very important - to me at the moment to live in hope.

Hi Jenny I think I was just used to using the “old app” with libre1 so just continued with it when I got the 2, I wouldn’t be bothered carrying around the reader when the phone would do, I did find out the alarms working with the phone app only happened a few months ago.
However I’m glad I did go back and put a sensor on and checked with the reader, and looked more into the phone app too.
I hope you will get the 2 soon because what I found out in the last few days will make a big difference for you

Apologies if I've missed this on a different thread, but how do the Libre 2 alarms work - will the reader (for example) notify the user without having scanned the sensor for up to a specific amount of time? If so, it seems to be almost a CGM type device now (but not fully) in comparison to something such as Dexcom.

Thank you for any help.

You can get an alarm if you've gone too high or low, yes. (Through bluetooth I think, so the reading device can be ~20 feet away.) You have to scan to find out whether it's too high or too low (and to see the reading): the alarm's just an alarm and doesn't have much content.

You don’t need to scan to find out whether you are too high or too low, the alarm tells you. It doesn’t tell you the exact reading until you scan but you will know that eg you’ve set your high alarm to 10 so if the high alarm is going off your bg has just gone over 10.
