Libre 2 to be "phased out"

Ooh, thankyou, @helli, I’ve got an annual review coming up, will mention it. It’s been at the back of my mind that I could upgrade at some point, but as I use the reader and it won’t make much difference, it had stayed at the back of my mind!

It might. They claim better accuracy (which I presume applies to the reader). I haven't noticed.

Anyone using Juggluco should check the version (it's been updated, a while ago now).
I suppose the one difference i’m not looking forward to is the 15 days length, I currently always change mine every other Sunday, and know where I am with it.

Yeah, I don't like that. My pills are done in lots of 28 days, so now the sensors are different which is annoying. Though the pharmacist commented it was still (as far as she knew) 26 a year which gives a few days extra, potentially. (So you could naturally have a little buffer, at least eventually.)

Wow all of the items on my repeat prescription are on their own schedule.
My insulin frequency depends upon whether I was unwell and needed more or whether I did more exercise and needed less or whether I was on holiday and ate more. And that is just the insulin for my pump. My "backup" insulin cartridges depend upon how many overnight trips I take and need to remove them from the fridge.
Test strip frequency depend upon how many unexpected highs or lows I have so need to more testing to check my CGM.
CGM frequency depends upon any issues needing replacement or MRI scans that require it to be removed. So there is no set date for changing it. I sometimes get into a flow - it was changed on Wednesdays until I had a bone density scan on a Tuesday which required me to remove it so my CGM changer is now a Tuesday.
It doesn't bother me - whenever I need something renewed on my prescription, I do a check of my supplies and add whatever I need. Today I am picking up insulin vials for my pump.

My understanding has always been that it makes things easier for the surgery if you order everything at once, every 4 weeks, even if that means having a surplus of some items (which is not a bad idea for Christmas, holidays etc). At least that's what my mother was told many years ago, so I've always done the same.

About 10 years ago, my surgery had a plan to align all of the items on prescriptions but soon realised it was not possible given the amount of insulin, needles, test strips I used and the size of the boxes. It was far more effort to split boxes of needles than approve a "partial" prescription whenever it is needed which seems to vary between every 3 weeks and every 6.
My FIL requests everything every time regardless of how much he uses and has a cupboard packed full of paracetamol. Perhaps he was told the same. But it feel like a waste to me.

I just order what I need each month with a few weeks stock rolling over of insulin, needles and test strips.

I was expecting this update to Libre 2+ sooner or later and no doubt that will happen.... sooner or later! I too am not looking forward to the 15 days causing sensor change day variation and suspect this will mean at some point I get it wrong/forget/get caught out, but no big deal if/when that happens.
I am trying to learn from my upgrade to Libre 2, which I was very reluctant about and hung on until the bitter end before having to change, because the original Libre worked so well for me and I didn't want to risk that changing, but Libre 2 has been equally good for me plus the benefit (and sometimes aggravation 😳) of alarms, so I am trying to see this upgrade in a more positive light.

@helli Not sure if you have seen the post but I am sure someone, Bruce perhaps, posted about Libre now being authorized to remain on for scans including MRI which seems a bit scary to me with it containing a metal battery, but presumably this has been tested and found to be safe. Hopefully someone will shoot me down if I have got that wrong.

Thanks for this but
1. I do not use Libre
2. The bone density scan (not MRI) I had last month explicitly mentioned that all "medical implants" must be removed including CGMs.

It depends what is being scanned, the field strength of the MRI machine, length of time of the scan, and likely the MRI operator/trusts own decisions on what they approve to be ok or not

I had a DEXA scan in September but didn’t have to remove my Libre

I had a DEXA scan in September but didn’t have to remove my Libre
It was reported to me as an issue with the specific brand of DEXA which I investigated at the time.
Due to this issue, my hospital were very insistent that I removed all tech (they initially cancelled my appointment when they heard I have a pump). I had to sign a form to confirm I had done so and ensured all tech (including mobile phones) were kept at least 2m from the scanner at all times.

Sorry, my comment about scanners was not meant to distract from the Libre 2 message.

Wonder when g6 will go to g7...hopefully not until the geofencing issue is resolved

Same here. Tin bath the night before work, whether I need it or not. 😉.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it with my current set up. Personally, I think it’s just a Libra 2 with an extra day’s worth of life? (& programmed to elude git hub developers.) Like the same car “face lifted” from a happy content front end grill & lights to an aggressive autobot? It can still be hit on gate posts.

If they wanted to do that they obviously failed! I think they had to keep lots of compatibility for all the Readers out there (which just work), and quite likely they don't care that much about unapproved software anyway.
I think they probably do care about the developers. I’m happy with Abbott’s product. I just don’t see them understanding what a Libremite requires from it? Adaptability for the lifestyle of the sort of person that integrates the sensor with daily management. Which Git Hubbers are doing a great job of. Still begs the question. What happened the the smaller button sized “Libre 3?”
