Libre 2 plus reliability

Hi all
Added a new sensor to spare arm yesterday morning, had a little blood coming from the sensor not long after being installed. Early evening yesterday, cgm was showing as under 3.0, but felt normal, so did a blood test, read 6.8. Woke up this morning with a lovely bruise under the cgm, called Abbott who are replacing it and advised to remove cgm if it bleeds on install, and blaming the caresens dual reader for possibly reading the blood wrong and that the sensor is only slightly out. I replaced the sensor again this morning, and once again getting readings now under 3.0, blood showing 6.7, another failure and expected customer service call tomorrow.
Not had any replacements since the 2 plus replaced the libre 2, but 2 in less than 2 days???? It's not compression low as I tend to lean on the opposite arm whilst on the sofa on purpose.
Looking at Dexcom one, being offered it last year due to problems with the libre 2, ordered the free sample.
I'm almost 3 years in with type 1, I was 48!, no history in family, nor any experience of a low or highs.
Anyone else had similar issues with the 2 plus, or have moved over to the dexcom one+? Do blood testers fail? I tried a new pack of testing strips with a blood change from 9.2 then 6.7 on new strips, nowhere close to 3.0.
Cheers in advance
Lee

Anyone else had similar issues with the 2 plus
Like most people I've had occasional issues like that (the sensor never really giving a proper reading) but I had the same (rare) failures with Libre 2 and Libre 1. I'd expect that (rarely) to happen with two sensors in a row (no reason to think it wouldn't) but I haven't experienced that yet.

Sorry to hear you've had a couple of wonky sensors.

Sometimes these things do seem to come in succession. 🙄

It might be worth leaving it for a day or so to see if it comes into line? I’ve had ht with different sensors in the past. Including ‘bleeders’. (A bleeder is a reader as the saying goes).

Sometimes people seem to get a box of sub-par sensors with a higher than usual failure rate. Hope that isn’t the case for you, and your next sensors from that lot are all hunky dory.

Had put in a new Libre 2 Sunday evening ready to scan Monday morning when the old one expired. It scanned OK with my iPhone but after the hour the connection kept getting lost and when I checked Bluetooth is not finding it so have to keep doing scans to find out my readings and fill in the gaps. Called Abbott today and the reason they gave is that it isn’t the sensor but the IOS version is not compatible with the Libre App. Did ask why the previous one worked fine with it but they couldn’t answer that and said it will work sometimes with the sensors and sometimes it won’t. If it is the IOS version and the app not compatible that makes no sense. Their remedy is to send me a reader for it that I then have to carry around to get the alarms if high or low. Anyone else had this issue?

@SWAN2019 I use the reader as my primary device and absolutely love it's simplicity, small size and reliability. There is no dropping connection and no issue with updates. Yes, you have to carry another device and you have to scan rather than full CGM but to me that is a minor draw back which is more than made up for in it's reliability. It can double as a BG meter if you can get strips prescribed for it, so then you are not carrying an extra bit of kit.

I wonder if the recently released IOS update is the cause of your problems on this occasion. Do you have your phone set to automatically update? If so, Abbott have suggested not to do automatic updates and wait until they have ensured the app is compatible.... not sure how they announce that as I don't have much interest in the phone app with the reader being so good for me.
If it is the IOS update then I think uninstalling and reinstalling the app often
fixes the problem but you lose the data stored in the app, but it will still be available in LibreView assuming you have that linked to your LinbeLink app.

I am just on my first Libre 2 Plus after 5 years on Libre and Libre 2 and so far all going smoothly.

I asked elsewhere about updating to iOS 18.4 but nobody seemed to have done it so when my last sensor was in its last few hours I gave it a go. It seemed fine so the next day I started a new one that really wasn’t happy and then it died, I tried a second one and that worked but died within a hour, it said it had expired, it certainly had. As I figured I had nothing to lose I went to number 3 which has been working happily for two days now. It seemed very unfortunate that I had two duds when I also had concerns about the iOS but as the third one has been ok so far I am hopeful, though not completely convinced yet.

I filled in the requisite forms to get them replaced and said I was using 18.4. They didn’t quibble with this and replacements are on the way. The problems I have with them is they don’t seem to recognise my address.

I have not used a reader before and not sure what benefit it will be if you have to scan to get readings. I can do that with my phone still. It’s just not giving continuous information.
As far as updates go I hadn’t recently done an update and the old one was working with the same version but an hour later it doesn’t work with the new one.

I think the next iOS update will mean a switch to the reader for me. The inconsistency is a real pain.

The reader is slightly easier to scan (especially with an Android phone the NFC sensor is in some specific place (different between different phones) and it can be awkward to find it whereas the Reader seems to be easier; I think iPhones have the sensor on the top edge so that's more sensible).

And you do still get alarms, the signals just aren't used for anything else. And you need to use a computer to update readings to LibreView.
