Good evening
my husband has just starting using the Libra 2 system but has had to remove the sensor due to his skin feeling itchy and uncomfortable. It was several hours until the itchiness stopped he is left with a raised red area where the sensor was. The first sensor was fine no trouble but the second one was removed after only 1 day.

wondering if anyone else has experienced this? We called Abbots Care but no real help there other that to say see your health Care professional.

its a real shame .

before Libra 2 he had used Dexcom system with no skin reaction ..but a lot more expensive

Many people have reactions to adhesives and yes they can change them without notice, it may be worth trying again but putting a barrier spray on the area of the skin before applying xx

Hi Mitch61,

Had your husband tried the libre 1 before at all? Was there any allergic reaction with that adhesive?

Elastoplasts (adhesives) are well known to cause a reaction. I currently use the Libre 1 and have never had a reaction to the adhesive, but I have had similar reactions to what you describe with some non hypoallergenic plasters. I'm hoping they haven't changed the adhesive on the libre 2?

I'm hoping that too @Amity Island.

Anyway - can anyone recommend a barrier spray for the OP - plus me or Amity, in case we need one when we change?

@Amity Island .....hubby has only used Libre 2 and this is the first glucose monitoring device that he has tried and was finding it very beneficial. I will contact the company and clarify what adhesive material is used on the sensor and will post the reply here.

he first tried a month supply of the Dexcom system which is costly, but no skin reaction without the 4 weeks.

I use Cavilon with my pump and have read of others using it with Libre.
I also have experience of SkinTac but it is more expensive and, coming in individually wrapped sachets, produces more rubbish than I am comfortable with.

Never needed to use any myself although I do have some and an adhesive remover in the cupboard, you can get free sample's from here - Request Your Stoma & Ostomy Sample - Trio Healthcare (trioostomycare.com) there is an option for Diabetics so it's not fiddling or anything, I'll warn you in advance, they probably will give you a call to see how you are getting on with the product, they did me when I requested the adhesive remover and after chatting that's when they then sent the barrier spray xx

Good luck! When the Libre 1 was first out there seemed to be more people who appeared to have reactions. They were very reluctant to disclose what adhesive they used.

Probably not much help - but I've not noticed any differerence between the most recent L1s & L2 as regards adhesive. The first L1s I had were a bit itchy though, and left a residue which was really hard to get rid of

My Libre 2 is coming next week! I think I might have a party I'm so exited...oh I forgot, I can't.... I'm still very happy its coming though.😉
