I was a bit alarmed by the potential shortage of IV 'sliding scale' equipment, and the suggestion that ordinary subcutaneous insulin, or even intramuscular injections are used instead, but I just had a quick Google, which threw up a couple of studies on DKA, which suggested that the outcome using normal injections isn’t any worse than using IV. Someone’s got to calculate the dose for you though, and this is always at the back of my mind. (Control freak? Moi?)
