You are unfortunately facing what a lot of us faced in either no diet support or very poor support.
One of the problems we all face is that foods made with white flour or highly processed food groups, is that they can send our BS sky high very rapidly. Also fruit can be a hit and miss affair as they can also do the same.
Bananas are very hit and miss, with me they are ok, yet with others they can send ones BS high.
The trick or the game is to find alternatives that give a slow and steady rise thus allowing your system to process the food without spiking your BS.
The next point is a very sore point to a lot of type 2's, do you have a BS meter and can you get test strips on prescription? A lot of people are being refused test strips, because GP's say that we don't need to test and let the GP's manage ones sugar levels. This in practice does not work as they don't know what foods do and how they effect you, most docs will only offer an annual HbA1c tests others may get them more often.
With the aid of a meter you can see by testing before a meal and then 2 hours after what the state of play is. Once you have identified which meals are causing problems then you can start to work out which food/s in the meal are causing problems.
Its worth going back to the doctors and explain you are having problems and would it be possible for them to provide test strips on prescription. Some of us really had to justify the need for the strips and some have had some success others have drawn a blank.
If you have to go down the self funding route the SD code free system is about the cheapest to fund with strips being around ?7 for 50. Getting a meter for the bigger names on the likes of Bayer, Accu Chek, Abbott Medisense, life scan is not normally a problem as they will normally send you a meter for free, but the strips for most of these meters is around ?25 for 50. Though Buying direct from the supplier (those that will sell direct) like Abbott their strips are around the ?15 mark for 50.
