Hi Guys,
Last time I was here I was saying that I had halved my metf dose (well - I went back on my regular dose quick smart after 2 weeks. I think I have discovered the reason for the various pains in my arm and neck. I noticed that the big change I had to my food is...beetroot juice.
I would juice a raw beetroot (along with apple and cucumber) and consume a tiny bit with water every day. I was doing this as the blood pressure meds I was prescribed kept giving me allergic reactions. Luckily I am seeing my Doctor tomorrow and will explain this to him. I read the side effects of beetroot juice and it can cause spikes in blood pressure and blood sugar. I threw the lot out. Lesson learned

I was drinking it daily, sometimes twice a day for 3 months. I was using it to control my blood pressure. This was because the previous one prescribed to me - Perindopril and Losartam Potassium I got allergic reactions to (face and lips swelling up etc). I only take the Amlodipine at the moment

Interesting finding, rustee2011. Shows the value of recording significant changes in diet. Hope you and your GP can work out a way of controlling your high blood pressure, whether by diet and lifestyle changes alone or with suitable medication.

Thanks, What I have learned is that I need to purchase a blood pressure monitor. I can only think this must be the case, as since June 2017 until present this was the only addition to my diet. I think that I shouldn't have been drinking it everyday. I was using it like I use my meds - I think this was overdoing it.
Although it got my blood pressure down within the first two weeks...oh well....lesson learned

Thanks for that!

I think that most of us have had unfortunate experiences with diet or meds, but your response seems very timely. I hope you find a more effective control. (I used to love beetroot, and expected or hoped it was innocuous...)

Hi Guys - Just came back from my Doctors. He gave me a thorough check of my arms and chest. He assured me that the pain in my left arm and sometime neck is NOT Heart related, and that I wasn't having a heart attack or stroke. My blood pressure was high (160 I forgot the other numbers - so much for the beetroot). Anyway he said that they are referring my high blood pressure meds. Dr said it seems that the pain is more muscle related - as I explained I used to lift a 12kg kettle bell until 3 weeks ago as my exercise. I will be seeing a specialist as my Doc wants to further reassure me it's not heart related.

Funny thing is - when I had reduced my metformin and was doing the kettle bell ( I stopped a month ago) My family said I actually lost weight....hmmm food for thought....
