Hi my last HbA1c result was 41 that was 3 weeks ago so I am very happy! But the last couple of weeks I have had pain behind both knees when bending plus when resting cramp like pains in my feet and toes on and off I visit my podiatrist every 6 weeks and she checks my feet but the aching is awful

Hi Lisaa, sorry to hear this :( It may be unrelated to your diabetes. Are you taking any other medication - statins, for example? They are known to have cramps/leg pain as a possible side effect. Have you been doing anything different lately? When do you next see the podiatrist? If you go regularly and they say you have good blood supply and sensitivity then I don't think you need to worry about neuropathy. Sometimes, when my blood sugar levels have been higher than usual e.g. when I have been ill, and then my levels come down again I can experience temporary cramps, particularly at night, in feet and lower legs. This usually only lasts a night or two though. I hope things improve for you soon 🙂

Hi thanks for the reply not done anything different lately, I am due at the podiatrist on 5th January, I take statins but have done for 3 years, it’s worse in a morning when I get out of bed my feet hurt until I get going

Do you drink enough (water). Hydration is very important for us all. Good look & statins are a problem with joints.🙂

I drink water throughout the day , I have anxiety and I am sat worrying that I have vascular disease in my lower legs

I have excruciating cramp every single night but I don’t think it’s related to neuropathy in my case. Ask your doctor about possible vitamin deficiencies because a lack of Vit D, potassium and magnesium can lead to leg cramps. Also keep well hydrated, do stretching exercises before bed and trying wearing bed socks which do help.

Some times I wonder how the body works in the first place ? Keep drinking & good luck 😉

Thanks for the replies, my feet do sometimes feel cold but are not that cold to touch, no tingling or numbness just aching and pains now and again

Sounds more like circulation probs to me. I drink Diet Tonic Water. Very cheap to buy without the Gin !
