Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Since July this year the tops of both legs ache after any excercise or walk or even cleaning the car, have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for 2 years and am not taking any medication for it. I am taking medication for high blood pressure, cholesterol and osteoarthritis of the knee. Wondered if anyone else with type 2 diabetes has the same condition, the leg pain eases with rest but as soon as I get up it feels as if my legs are going to give way until I start to walk and the leg ache then returns.

Are you taking a statin?
After just a few weeks of Atorvastatin and Metformin I was dragging myself upstairs, and could only go out walking using sticks to keep my balance on the uneven pavements around here.

Have been taking Celecoxib since May for osteoarthritis leg ache started in July not taking Metformin have been on Rosuvastatin for 4 weeks

It may be worth looking at your shoes and the way you walk. Sometimes when you have pain in one part of the body like your knees it affects the way you walk as you are compensating in the way you move.
Things like vitamin B12 deficiency can cause aching. Have you had that checked.

I think it's also worth discussing with your GP in case it's intermittent claudication. I think that generally starts with calf muscles rather than thigh muscles, but I wouldn't like to rule it out without checking if that's possible

Good call mate & worth checking out, heard of this condition before.

Depends where the artery block/narrowing is. Pain & claudication generally occurs one "segment" below. So calf pain from blockage of the femoral artery above the knee, most common. But also pain in the thighs & buttocks from blockage of the iliacs.

OP should def get this checked, as should any diabetic or smoker or older person woth thigh/leg/foot pain on exertion which resolves with rest.
