Two eating disorder sufferers are launching a legal challenge against plans to close the Tyneside clinic where that are being treated.

It was announced earlier this month that the Richardson Eating Disorder Service (REDS), in Newcastle, was to close.

The Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust announced that it would be replacing the award-winning unit, at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, with intensive day unit at Walkergate hospital, later this year.

The decision would see 10 inpatient beds at REDS disappear meaning that some North East patients with severe eating disorders would have to be treated in units outside the region, some as far away as Norwich.
