Hi My husband Gavin has diabetes 2 probably caused by cancer treatment. since radiotherapy he has been very lethargic and a leg thing came onto his lower leg. steroid cream dries it up a little then it breaks out again and each time this happens it get bigger. now 3 times the start size. also on both lower legs tiny purple veins are popping up very fast. have been told its a fungal infection but beginning to wonder.Probably panicking but he's been through so much this last year I'm not taking any chances. he also has reactive inflammatory arthritis due to radiotherapy and is ina lot of pain with that. His diabetes was at16 when found and is on Trajenta now. Sorry for the long screed but going to surgery tomorrow and want some advice to go with as sometimes feel not listened to.
Thank you Lyn

Hi Lyn, sorry to hear about that.... How are his Blood Glucose levels? What's his HbA1c..... Long periods of elevated BG levels can wreak havoc in the body

Hi Martin. His HbA1c went from 16 to 7.5 and this was acceptable in October. I don't know what glucose level was. wasn't mentioned.Had to stop Metformin due to side effects and put on Trajenta. 16 was put down to steroid injection for arthritis but previously in March 17 it had been 10.8 in a hosp stay for suspected stroke. That was due to cancer meds and pain meds reacting to each other and shooting blood pressure 220/78 and was very scary.
maybe time to check levels again?? Lyn

Certainly daily testing really helps in controlling BG levels, very high or wildly varying can really cause issues as bacteria thrive in this environment

Hi Lyn

Please get medical help for your husband as soon as possible. Ulcers are common in diabetes in lower limbs and feet especially if circulation is poor or blood sugar is elevated. If the area is an open wound ad is increasing in size it needs medical attention urgently. Is the skin around the ulcer red and hot?

Please get a Dr or nurse to your husband asap if he is not able to get to them, don't wait and watch for things to improve on their own.

I wish you well and hope things start to improve for you..
