I have been waking up to very painful leg cramps during the night.

Last night I woke up at 3.00am, and I did my normal go and get a refill of water, but as of late I have been having weak legs when I wake up, so this morning I got up and went to take my first step going down the stairs and my left leg just gave way on me and I fell onto my backside and slipped down the stairs!!😱

It really made me poop myself!! I was lucky as I had a pint glass in my hand!

But even at work my legs feel really weak?

And these cramps keep coming at night for some reason?

Anyone else had this? 🙂

I used to get cramp quite often when my levels were higher, and still do occasionally. Walking barefoot on a cold floor seems to help make it stop. Drinking diet tonic water can help prevent it. Some doctors prescribe quinine (the stuff that gives tonic its flavour) for cramp, but the tablets are hard to swallow because they're so bitter.

Do you think it is maybe because my levels are dropping rather than the later?

It's odd because I never really had cramps even when my levels were high, but as of late I get very weak legs and wake up to very bad cramps....or it is just I am just dam right weird!!! :D

I get really bad leg cramps (bad enough to wake me from a deep sleep) but my legs don't go weak, it's that bad I can hardly stand.

It makes me wonder if it is the insulin i take....because what else could it be? 🙄

It's not necessarily a D thing. My ex used to suffer quite badly, that's how I know about the tonic water.

Ant, I suffered from this a lot in the 6 months or so after I was diagnosed. They usually came at night and would literally throw me out of the bed 😱 You're pretty much at the stage where I was back then, in regaining control from pretty high levels. Once my levels had settled down at more reasonable numbers I rarely had them, and now I will only get them if my levels have been on the high side and coming down again. So for me it is directly related to my levels coming down from high levels. Hopefully, this is also the case with you and you will soon be rid of them 🙂

Who thought tonic water could help? I wonder what and how it helps?

I will have to buy some to get over this glitch! :D

The only time I had cramps was for a few months before I was diagnosed.

I didn't know it at the time but this was the 1 symptom of T2 I had apart from the little bit of tingly toes which I put down to the cramp!

A glass of water before bed seemed to do the trick for me at the time; since diagnosed & levels came down no cramp or tingly toes.

Didn't realise tonic could help as I'm a bit partial to a vodka & tonic not as boring as a glass of water.
