Hi,

Currently working with the dietician for the last 7 weeks to get my weight down I’ve went from 105.6kg to 97.3 long way to go yet but getting somewhere! (Using counterweight plus.)

anyways.. during the last 2/3 weeks I’ve felt absolutely terrible- tired, fast heart rate, mood swings and such a dry mouth.
Contacted my gp and he’s ran some tests (2 weeks ago)

HbA1c-37
And fasting blood glucose 4.5.

I’ve been to see my GP since then and have been given a blood glucose monitor incase we are missing something he said.

For the last week I’ve been monitoring my fasting/upon waking blood glucose and the results are- 6.9, 6.2, 6.and then 7.8

I was advised to check my blood sugar before a meal (5) and then take 500ml of lucosade sport and check after 30 minutes this raised my heart rate to 121 and my blood sugar to 9.8.

It’s given me a range of results to show my GP but does anyone have any advice? Could the HbA1c be wrong and should be re tested?

TIA

Hi @Maybeanewbie and welcome to the forum. I'm afraid no one on this forum can give medical advice. Your blood counts look good to me, but it's welcome news that the GP gave you a monitor to check on a regular basis. It sounds like the GP is taking this seriously and looking at a range of possibilities. It will be up to the GP to re-check your hba1c if they feel it needs re-testing. Is your next appointment soon?

Welcome to the forum @Maybeanewbie

We don’t profess any medical qualifications on the forum, and can only speak from our own experiences. Your HbA1c looks perfectly in the normal range, and while you are seeing some variation after lucozade, that is to be expected.

Some of those fasting results might look very slightly raised, but it’s important to note that home BG monitors aren’t really rated as reliable enough for diagnostic purposes - an HbA1c is how they will determine a diagnosis.

Do you have anaemia? That can affect the result of HbA1c as it is changes to the red blood cells that are measured.

Hope further checks with your GP bring you some clarity. But in the meantime do try not to worry or be anxious.
