Just had my latest Hba1c results 54, which is better than I was expecting but still higher than ideal.
The narrative with the result seems ti indicate that a range of 48 to 58 would be OK, and states that there is "adequate control"

I know I need to get it down even further (it was 98 just over a year ago) but does this result seem OK ish?

I'm 70 and not overweight - BMI 24

Thanks for your thoughts

@Beancounter298, my thoughts are at 75 I need to try and find a balance between getting too distracted by ailments at the cost of stress (or obsession) from managing these ailments.

I'm not particularly familiar with all of the finer points of T2 management, but I do know there is a broad consensus that the defined threshold for being diabetic (>47 mmol/L) should be relaxed as we get older. That would seem to fit, for you, with the narrative that a range of 48 to 58 would be OK, and that there is "adequate control".

I
also think that you have done brilliantly in getting your HbA1c down from 98ish. You clearly have a good understanding of what you personally needed to do to bring yourself back into a sensible range and if I were in your position I'd pat myself on the back, relax a little (not completely) and enjoy my 70s while I could. Pursue my hobbies and interests actively, indulge in my new adjusted lifestyle and stay active! Well done.

That is a really fantastic reduction from 98 a year ago and you should be incredibly proud of yourself! Diabetes management is all about balance as Roland says. The risks with an HbA1c of 54 are massively reduced from 98 and you are looking at the long term risks of complications developing, so if you can maintain that that level or improve on it a bit without making life unenjoyable then by all means try but don't make yourself miserable pushing yourself to get it lower and ruining whatever quality of life you have.
