Went to see the liver/diabetes specialist today.

I came away feeling quite positive but still a bit confused about my cholesterol levels!

My liver is now behaving itself and there were no problems on that score.

My HbA1c was still 5.9% (41) which is no surprise considering it was only a month since my last test.

Total Cholesterol is back down to 5.29 (it was over 7 before).
HDL = 0.80, LDL = 4.49
Triglicerides = 1.36

I really don't understand why the HDL remains so low (and it's even lower than my previous reading) because I've been guzzling atleast two portions of oily fish each week. Mind you the consultant did say that there wasn't much I could actually do to influence the HDL levels, which goes contrary to the advice I've been given already about oily fish (ho hum).

Anyway, off to make an appointment to see my GP to see what he has to say about my cholesterol levels. I'm thinking about accepting statins (for a bit!!).

Andy 🙂

Nice 1 Andy, how come you have hbA tests so often? usually every 3 month i thought.Only you can decide if you want to ask for statins you know the opinions from people on here who take them but regardless its how you feel so i hope you make the right choice for you good luck x

It's just the way the cookie crumbled. I'm seeing the hospital for my liver problem and now my GP for the diabetes. Because neither is talking to the other for some reason, there isn't much co-ordination going on!

I think that it'll sort itself out shortly.

Andy 🙂

Well done mate, the more tests you can get the better really..........

Good to see your hba1c is behaving and your liver.
Keep up the good work Andy.

Why do you have a reluctance to use statins?

I must have missed it somewhere ...sorry 🙂

It's a reluctance to use any form of medication unless I absolutely have to. There are always side effects, which I'd prefer not to have to bother about.

But, in this case, with my cholesterol remaining stubbornly high, I think it's getting time when I have to accept the inevitable.

Andy 🙂

Cracking numbers there And (I think!)
Good luck in working out the olde cholie numbers ...!

Cheers

Thanks Rossi,

The cholesterol is the only thing that's 'brassing me off' at the moment because it's the only thing that's not really responding consistently to my efforts!

Oh well, onwards and upwards! 🙂

Thats the spirit chin up glass half full (but I could take another!)

Hey if Cholesterol ain't responding, try sending them a letter, with bold red letters on the heading, that normally does the trick!

Take care
