I've been waiting for an update on this for some time. There was much talk about this a while back on the news then it went quiet, seems they've been actively trialling this over past 10 years or so. Aim is to show if TB vaccines can help to prevent the autoimmune system destroyng the insulin producing cells.

 
There’s a mention of the initial trial here. Patients in the small study were found to need about a third less insulin. presume they’re hoping this will improve if they catch people earlier, or in paediatric cases.

I’m pleased it might be helpful for something. More than 7 million died from TB last year, so it’s not much use in TB control.
