It is not the first time that the lead article in DiaTribe has been about how all the new innovations in diabetes are available in Europe but not in the US - how irritated that makes me feel when they aren't on offer here - what does anyone else think?

you'll quite right Alan..

The kit may be EU licenced but whether 'we' the diabetic actually get our grubby little mits on it is all down to either two things... NICE guidelines or whether we have deep enough pockets ourselves to fund it?

But I actually suspect though there will be similar decussion in other parts of europe... But instead of the dear NSH whether you get the kit, will depend on you medical insurance cover and/or how deep your pocket is..

What Alan says is quite right.

I know of people who would like the Omnipod, but they're not allowed because it's too expensive. CGMs are not usually funded by the NHS, so the patient (or parent) will have to fund it themselves, which is very expensive.

It is very difficult to get a pump in this country. You can't just go to the consultant and say, I want to go on a pump and you'll get one. There are fewer people in the UK who have pumps than in the US percentage wise.
