I remember being on here when I received a telephone call from the doctors surgery. “ hello I just calling you about your diabetes “ my reply “ what diabetes ? “ she replied it’s nothing to worry about we will test you in 12 months any concerns here’s a link to the diabetes forum “ Im already recovering well from a stroke so was extremely ***ed off with her nonchalance .
It’s a long story so I’m chopping a lot out .
Escalated the diabetes nurse as a formal complaint copied in my local councillor. Received a very long visit from a diabetes nurse locum got full check up even reading the pulse in my toes. All good “ we will give you another blood test in. 12 months.
I’m getting regular health checks because of the stroke
Lots more nonsense until they agreed to do a specific diabetes and cholesterol check .
Every test result went up on my NHS App in 24 hours.
So here we go Diabetic to non diabetic in 11 months. I’ve changed my eating which was surpringly easy . I do short burst of intense stroke related exercise which can include a sensible stroll but frankly because of the weather I did not increase it.
But I have learnt that even getting up and having a poop is exercise ( probably far more than most realise ) .

I’m feeling less lethargic which is a big deal all round . I’ve drilled down into my new food intake and have learnt how certain nutrients accelerate cognitive recovery , others encourage blood flow. Never ever taken supplements eat the right food and you don’t have to.

All my comments are medically proven I’m very lucky to still be in contact with my NueroPhysio so any info I’ve checked in with him.
Frankly completely ignored any advice from the Diabetes team and some of the advice on here not all of it and I’m aware everyone’s journey is different .

I should stop now but the one I’ve learnt and I consider a big deal the health authorities try and put everyone in a box that does not work everyone on here is different , different genetics, different upbringings a lot of early health events however small can effect you it’s endless.

Absolutely fabulous result, well done, hopefully your recovery will progress and with better weather you can get out walking a bit more.

Great result @manji and agree that everyone is different and a lot variables are involved when developing our treatment/management programme.

Congratulations on getting your hbA1c down to 41mmol/mol.
Whatever changes you made are obviously working for you. The benefit of this forum is the wide range of people's experiences of how they manage their diabetes. It show how truly individual we all are and what works for one person won't necessarily suit another.

As you say, we don't fit into boxes and the NHS is not joined up when it comes to treating a person with more than one health issue.
Wishing you well with your continuing stroke recovery exercises. Roll on Springtime and warmer weather!

Great work on your steady reduction in HbA1c @manji

And great to hear you are feeling more energised these days too!

Congrats on the HbA1c level reduction, as you say, everyone is different, we all have to figure what works for us as individuals. Keep at it.... 😎

Thanks for the positive responses I was concerned it might come over as gloating . I will try and do a brief summary of what worked for me.

Firstly I’m lucky I don’t work and have an immense amount of freedom . I don’t have to work around anyone/ anything.
Here we go it’s easy to slip into a lazy undisciplined lifestyle I try and have a basic plan the same one every day . Try to get to bed at the latest midnight . I sleep well and will get up at 8:30 I just potter around feed the kitty , have a quick wash as I’m doing that I’m having various healthy drinks some are even capable of doing repair work . Some water of course , one of a selection of green teas I’ve found out Tetlys selection are as good as any fancy drinks * this is a recurring theme* 90% of what I need is available at any supermarket . No health supplement tablets .
Drinks Kombucha there are zero bad ingredients and includes splendid nutritional boosts .

About 11am I have my specialist first meal it’s not always the same but this is a good example . Bowl small layer of basic no additives Muesli , layer of fruit, raspsberries or similar sprinkle this with some chia seeds ( Sainsbury’s do an amazing mix pack of chia seeds/sunflower/ Flaxseed/ Goji berries bit expensive but lasts for ages ) then some pistachio or almond nuts , add almond milk and top with Greek Fat Free youghurt. That is a gorgeous refreshing and remarkably filling meal . It’s stopped the dreaded 1pm brain fog as well Everything in it is safe and many have energy boosters.

That’s me done until 7pm very occasionally a carefully selected nutrient bar or a cup of Huel .
Now that’s given me a bit of freedom . I hate cooking can’t cook so it will be for example some breaded frozen fish , very rarely any potato products so a good dollop of frozen sprouts / Cauliflower cheese whatever that’s me done .
If I’m peckish in the evening some nuts or high fibre crackers

There are loads of various , good for you extras to throw on any meal , cocoa powder, cocoa nibs, tumeric, Himalayan sea salt ( you don’t need much) ginger, black pepper, matcha,
I’m still experimenting on combinations , once a week I will have a baked potato with assorted combinations , any of that lot , low fat cheese .
Again that diet would allow me to go out for a meal but this diet has made me really aware of processed food and ridiculously obvious thing like manufacturers just putting sugar into food

I’ve lost weight sensibly no ups or downs just an obvious dwnward trend. Completely ignore BMI .
Now I’m still under the supervision of a fully qualified Nuerophysician( I’m only saying this to show the guys credibility , he’s a nutrician , ex Special Forces, then worked in specialist military medical facilities ) even before the diabetes he was showing me ways of rebuilding and adding new nuerone pathways . It becomes more difficult to achive as you get older but can help in delaying dementia.
I’ve really got to emphasise this I despise the wellness industry, no fads for me. My NP also thinks the likes of Bear Grylls and him and the likes fitness regimes are dangerous and exercise you do that’s makes you struggle is actually bad for you .Struggling is your body telling you to stop.

All this has accelerated my stroke recovery ( medically proven ) and of course reigned the diabetes in. Apparently impossible BTW everything is working more efficiently even my cognitive abilities but we are not all the same my job kept me active, no cigarettes and alcohol for decades the stroke .
I’m actually excited , you can see the progress on the NHS App, there’s going to be a lot more. Microvegatables, I’m getting a food blender ( the best one on the market £75 ) the work in the garden will ramp up the exercise with the benefit of if I hit my limit I can stop walk inside and have a lay down

Ive always been a big reader that stopped completely after the stroke much to my amazement my latest book is Military Nueropsychology .
Sorry for the long post I’m just excited by the possibities . I get in a weird way I’m lucky I still talk to an ex girlfriend of mine that has to have an oxygen tank with her or the amount of my contemporaries that have died.

It doesn't come across as gloating and I think I can say that everyone here will be pleased that you've done so well.
You are right that not working makes things easier. I used to have a steep rise on the mornings I went to work, regardless of whether I ate breakfast or not. Since being made redundant a month ago my morning readings are steady.
Whatever you are doing is obviously working for you so well done.

yes the * everyone is different * is important. I may be critical of our health services but recently I’ve talked to friends who COPD, severe mental illness, life trauma ( a divorce or death in the family ) , strokes, of course, drug addiction ( how few of them are junkies in the media perception way ) , life long disability and quite few with a combination of them .
Not to mention the amount of people that battle on and don’t talk about it. Sorry but I’ve got to give an example , a neighbour of mine a lorry driver, earns a fortune, tough guy decent working fella, man of few words.
He is as you imagine aware of my history. I saw him recently he’s overweight ( not a criticism ) I asked how he was doing, out of the blue told me he was driving this huge car transporter at night a guy jumped out in front of him, a suicide. Horrendous , him seeing the aftermath, police investigations, suspended from driving and a complete lack of therapy .
He’s working again . In hindsight there a few signs but I was stunned . I wanted to give him a hug * I’m a bloke don’t do that sort of thing * what’s that got to do with diabetes ? Quite a lot actually

It would be completely impossible to treat everyone individually for starters.
