I have to ask, see Letters, Pages 24 & 25 - Brian Mason.

Is he a relly of Victor Meldrew, or is the name an alias of Arthur Smith?

Annoyingly I can't check the issue he is complaining about as I can't find the relevant mag - why did the lady use 6 test strips in a single morning?

Was it a daft hypo tale or something else?

(and all the things that I think - what business is it of his in the first place, does B Mason need to watch his blood pressure - or what?)

Not got my copy yet, I'll take a look at the letter when it arrives.

Annoyingly, the letters pages aren't available online -- surely they're the bit of the mag that most needs to be available online, for cases such as this where we're wondering what on earth a letter writer is referring to, and there's little or no chance of finding the two-month-old paper copy of the mag, even if we still have it...

I have the last balance mag but not the new one:(

Think the offending item is the 'Star Letter' where lady on pump gave account of her morning and did test 6 times. This was because she was too high on waking, had correction, went down to 4.1 but wanted to walk to shops so ate and adjusted her basal rate down Was still to low after half an hour in her opinion so had coffee and sugar, tested again still too low, tested in another half hour OK but weather bad so waited and tested again when weather better before going out. Testers again when came back before her lunch which I make 6 in morning
Don't know what the chap in the new Balance objected too? Have to say this would be a lot of testing for K but she is not on a pump and I'm sure this lady doesn't do this everyday:confused:

The person in question was on a pump. 4 of the tests over 2 hours were because she was going to do exercise and the first 3 tests didn't give her a pre exercise level that she was happy with.

I seemed to recall it was as hypo tale.

He's complaining about the cost to the NHS and basically suggests she should be hung drawn and quartered for being irresponsible. And he then goes on to castigate DUK for laughing about it with her, they should obviously be utterly ashamed of themselves ........

Twerp.

DUK have said a Big Nuffink. bet they couldn't speak for laughing at him, knowing (I expect!) that their members will shoot Mr Mason down in flames........

It's very sad, innit, when a fellow diabetic (yes you guessed, not a T1) has so little comprehension about diabetes in general ........ cos there is just NO information ever, either in Balance or the DUK website about other types of diabetes is there? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargghh

Still never mind at least we're not obese like him ....

Northie - where's the 'Banging head on brick wall' smiley when you need one?

I've now found the bag I took to the Brum meet, hence found and read the letter Mr. Mason is objecting to. It was as MeanMom said; the writer is a Type 1 who was having a lot of trouble with her sugars that morning, so although (I imagine) 6 strips in one morning is unusual even for a T1, in the circumstances it wasn't excessive.

And having the "bang head against wall" smilie would be a good idea -- it's a pity Plauder Smilies has shut down, so it can no longer be had from there, but I know another forum which uses it, and it could be grabbed from there. 🙂 Also, to my mind no forum is complete without at least one evil-grin smilie. :D

Yes, we use those on the motorhome forum I'm on - much better, including the 'Welcome' and 'Thread Hi-jacked' one! - that used in conjunction to the 'Split Thread' button is VERY useful to Admin and Mods!

We've tried to find an alternative source on the current home of 'other dsf' and haven't so far ..... at the old home T could embed new smilies as required eg the coffee/keyboard interface one ......
