Late to the party but I’m getting Omnipod 5!

Had my annual appointment with the consultant today and without me asking he suggested me moving over to the Omnipod 5 (from the dash). I’m very excited! Will find out soon how long the wait is but I’m happy to be patient.

Does anyone have any experience with how the Omnipod 5 deals with different phases of you menstrual cycle? I have 4 different basal profiles that I currently run and I just wonder how the Omnipod 5 deals with this fluctuation of insulin resistance/ sensitivity?

Great news for you @100cas, and hopefully the wait isn't too long. It'll be handy to let us know how long the wait is since @JamesB_ has been told his wait is around 2 years.

Not sure who might have experience in how the Omnipod 5 deals with different phases of menstrual cycles but thought it might be worth tagging @PhoebeC who might be able to comment.

Sure Phoebe is still using Dash though might be wrong.

Omnipod 5 user myself but male so no experience @100cas , you can switch pump to manual mode not sure if you know this, best peeps to answer your question would be a dsn or pump rep.

That’s right I am on the dash but I’ve also had my call about going onto the 5, and I actually have the same question. I’ve been told after 8 weeks, but I am already on the dash and my consultant said that’s one of their first groups after children and pregnancy, those already in cgm and the dash.

The only issue with my control is my menstrual cycle and that it is still settling down into a new cycle after being on contraceptive for nearly 20 years and now being sterilised. So I will be interested in this myself. The consultant did say it would help with this but she didn’t specify so I will pick up with my dsn and share.

Hope it’s not a long wait and it goes smoothly for you!

Hey!
I have the Omnipod 5, granted it’s just been just over 3 months.
I find I still run a little high some days through my cycle but no where near as high as I did in MDI.
I haven’t any different basal programs as I’m still figuring life out on it. First month was a bit hit and miss but seem to be mostly levelling out with a few corrections here and there

Apparently I will be moving to it before the end of the year. Will be able to report back soon hopefully.

I started my Omnipod 5 on Tuesday. I finish my period fully on Monday so there’s a less bit of time until that happens again. Hopefully the system will have learn what is doing by then. Within a month or two, I hope to be able to update you on how I found managing my cycle.
As I have said other than ovulation and menstruation in my timing range is pretty good, both points in the cycle everything goes bonkers. I have managed to on the Omnipod dash to set basal programs which work pretty well, not perfectly.
I had 5 basal settings - normal, higher (for o ovulation, a little more than my normal setting), period 1 (a little lower than normal), period 2 (again a little lower) and then one for Rugby match days.
That relied on me tracking and changing settings based on my current cycle. I am not sure how the HCL will handle this but I am interested in how it will work and will definitely share. There is the option to have background basals in manual mode. Based on the train advice from the Nurse manual mode should be avoided unless there’s a reason such as being ill or certain types exercise. The activity setting reduces insulin which for me wouldn’t work for Rugby .
I hope you get a date soon, please let us know

@100cas do you have any idea yet when you will move onto the 5?

I am on my second period since starting and I am not finding it is handling it very well, and actually I am not sure if the rest if the time the benefits are worth it. But I have had teething issues with the libre 2 + connection which means a few very annoyingly manual days. And on another post a user has shared that they need to change their background settings often, I have my next pump appointment in a few weeks so will raise with my DSN.

@Daisycoo how have you found it with your cycle?

I found it’s handled ot well now I’m letting the pump work for me. I was working for the pump and doing to much.
I still sit on the higher side of my range at times but not to many huge spikes. My only small grievance would be that i find it a little itchy on my stomach at times but it’s not unbearable. I’d imagine if it was longer than 3 days use it’d drive me up the wall haha. It has helped to get thr A1c down currently st 56

Can’t even wear mine on the stomach anymore it won’t connect to the libre 2 plus on my arm - moving to the dexcom 6 hopefully
I miss it
Glad it’s working out other than the itch for you

I have the Dexcom g6, had to change from Libre for the pump, it’s been ok. I was definitely doing to much for the pump and dragging myself down. Past month has been a bit better just letting it do its thing/learn my body. In the few months I’ve had the pump I’ve only had 1 bleeder and 2 pump errors.
The first pump error I spent 40mins walking round the house looking for the beeping just to realise it was me haha.
