Hi guys, me again. I was asking why my fasting reading was high but my others very good. For 2 day my readings were really good ,last 2 it went up again. I've attached all my readings for the last few days.Screenshot (26).png
My question is what time do you think is best for the snack, maybe I'm too early/late. I go to bed about 12 and get up at 8am. I've been having the snack at about 10pm, is that a good time?
Sorry I gave the readings we use here, in UK terms for the last 4 days the fasting has been, 5.2, 6, 7.1, 7.4
Thanks

Those figures look good to me as if i remember correctly the range for fasting is anything up to around 7.7 ish..im hoping someone else will confirm this.

I was told to aim between 80 and 126 by the ratings here, which is 4.4 - 7

Why do you snack? Xx

Because everyone on here said I sohuld have something before sleep
That really isn't necessary unless on hypo causing medication and have lower than desired BG when you test before going to bed and if you feel you need a snack I wouldn't suggest anything along the lines of high carbohydrate and sugar that's in sultanas xx

OK thanks, maybe I'll test having nothing one or two days and just some seeds another. I've been drinking Butterfly blue pea tea and occasionally wine, neither of which I think affect numbers.

A google says the tea is caffeine free so it shouldn't have an impact at all, alcohol can in fact lower levels over night while the liver is trying to process it etc, I don't drink so no experience there xx

Thanks, yes i know wine is OK and the tea is caffine free, I avoid beer these days as I know it's loaded with sugar. xx

it's not just sugar you need to be aware of though, sorry if you know that but not everyone does xx

I'm slowly understanding it all, it's pretty confusing. Only diagnosed in October. I'm vegan too so that throws other things into the diet miz. Although by all accounts a vegan diet can be good for Type 2

I expect the advice of a pre-bed snack was to help reduce the dawn phenomenon effect the next morning. It works to some extent for many of us. Cracker or oatcake plus cheese is common, or just cheese on its own.
I suppose ypu could try vegan "cheese" if you eat that. Seeds on their own worth trying, or maybe add a nut butter? Seeds are fine, but the carb needs to be slower acting than dried fruit!
good luck experimenting!

I struggle getting some things as I live in Cambodia 🙂 . I can get peanut butter of course. I used to eat a lot of oats but they gave me gout, so I tend to avoid mostly.

It might be w orth trying just a spoonful of peanut butter.
The exact nature of the snack isn't crucial, some find just fat/protein works best for them eg lump of cheese, nut butter. Others get a better result if they add in a small amount of carb eg the cracker/oatcake or similar. Small crispbread?

Thanks, I'll keep trying.

It was suggested as a way to reduce Dawn Phenomenon @Kaylz - having something low carb last thing helps keep some people’s livers quiet overnight if they have a big DP push in the hours just before dawn.

Doesn‘t work for everyone though.
