Hi and welcome
@Flower1 glad you've found us. Great choice of name!
😉
I've had maximum laser treatment on both eyes, the reality isn't as bad as you imagine in your head.
Being referred for treatment in good time helps things so much, I was diagnosed late as it was pre the existance of the retinal screening programme in the 1980's so I already had a lot of damage.
You have dilating drops put in your eye - I think I had my eyes done at different sessions and not both together & once dilated sit at a slit lamp type table and put your head on a chin rest against the laser machine. A numbing drop is put into your eye and a lens is held against your eye to keep it open - you just feel some pressure it shouldn't be uncomfortable. Then you see a stream of bright laser lights - I think they were red - and clicks as each laser is aimed specifically at the damaged area to seal off abnormal vessels and stop the growth of fragile new vessels.
You may require more than one laser session as there is a limit to the number of laser burns that can be put on a retina in one go to limit inflammation.
Afterwards your eye/eyes feel grainy, blurred and light sensitive. Take sunglasses and if someone can go with you that helps. My eyes did settle down after a few days.
I hope all goes well for you. It is a very effective way to stop proliferative retinopathy progressing and to maintain good sight. Wishing you well.
