Fairly new in my understanding of all this but I read somewhere that if u test bg before dinner and 2 hours after u wouldn’t want more than a spike of 2? I was 6.5 before dinner and 10.5 2 hours later it was a homemade chilli with salad. I had cannelloni beans in it. Could that it be that. 4 hours before dinner I had a small bit of a guilt free brownie ( bought online and was desperate to see what they were like, wouldn’t normally have at that time of day! ) could that have still been working on me ? Honestly feel so fed up. Plus just done a three mile walk. I ve cut out pasta rice general sugary snacks and just seem to have rubbish levels. My fasting g tends to average about 8-9 in morning. Sometimes 7 ish. Im not unwell just bit tired. I’m on metformin. Sorry didn’t mean to do such a long post.
( ps I’m not overweight and have healthy diet. Dt2 probably due to treatment I had when young or just very unlucky in case useful!!!) thanks

Your post-prandial rise is most likely down to the beans. Half a cup is 28g carb. This is why we do pre- and post-meal testing, to see what we can tolerate. I wouldn't have thought your brownie would be having much effect after 4 hours and on the plus side your pre-meal reading was between 4 and 7, which is in range.

It’s early days so don't be too disheartened if your levels aren't coming down as quickly as you'd like. In fact dropping them too quickly is not generally advised.
Thank you for replying. I feel a bit better now. An hour later I’m now 8.2 so coming down. Good days and bad days for getting head round all this!

When I make a chilli, I add lots of additional veg with the meat like celery, courgette and lots of peppers, and 1 can of kidney beans but this would do 6 portions.

Sounds like mine.
500 g of lean steak.
A tin of kidney beans, a tin of butter beans, two tins of tomatoes, two onions, chili's, garlic, and anything else in the fridge that needs using up.
Any veg in the freezer, peppers, mushrooms, usually makes a crock pot full.
I eat it without rice, probably far too much of it!
The rest goes in the freezer.
